So, no more east/west matchup with Idaho, huh?

Divisional? (June 24/25?)

No, No more Winnemucca Challenge, the airport wants a large site deposit now, and it's just not worth it.

Also, we have yet to decide on the divisional. We will put it to vote at the Wed Club meeting. As of right now, it looks like there will be no divisional, but I think Dave D is still pushing to get it on the schedule. IF we do decide to have a divisional, it will indeed be that weekend of June 24-25.

You mean "Same weekend as Grand Prix du Canada". Which is fine for me, 'cause now I got a great excuse to miss the Divisional, if we happen to have one that weekend.

I think directors and officers are required to be there.

Well, 2 directors will be in Montreal!

Dean 2005-12-29 08:39 AM

I'll be there to vote against the divisional. Until the division can put together a solid program that adds value, it is way to much effort for to little reward i nmy mind.

I'd much rather have a normal 10 or so run casual weekend than a 6 run bust my ass weekend with a side of extra BS.

Nick Koan 2005-12-29 09:10 AM

I don't think I could have said it better myself Dean.

dknv 2005-12-29 09:44 AM

Re: divisional, I like the idea of having a number of out-of-region high caliber drivers who come here as opposed to traveling somewhere else to drive with them at the same event; but I didn't necessarily like the fact that it was considered two of our points events, and diluted the distribution of points. (Same thing goes for N/S challenge in Hawthorne as well as the now-defunct Winnemucca challenge.)

And Dean, what was your experience about the extra side of BS? Yes, it was a ton of work, is that your definition of bs?

MikeK 2005-12-29 09:49 AM

I vote for no divisional!! Three runs, on what was easily the crappiest track we had all year, along with all the extra paperwork and hassle, and having to be there all day ... for 1:30 on track? No!

No. I can clearly define BS; dealing with Kattie, as well as the additional T&S headaches.

There is nothing in the rules saying you can't run 5 runs, but Kattie won't let us. Here claim is you don't get 5 runs at a tour, or nationals. BFD! This is not those events. She does none of the prep work and then swoops in the day of the event and tells everybody what they should be doing, and why what they are doing is wrong. I won't go into the T&S crap, but lets just say there is a bunch.

Also, I would be surprised if anybody who experiences last year's fiasco of a total of six 30 second runs is likley to drive from anywhere, much less Reno for such an event with gas prices where they are likely to be.

You mean, that there's nothing in the rules for allowing 5 runs, (although only the first 3 count), right? I must be losing my mind, didn't we have fun runs on Sat.

But as steward, that's her role (make sure everybody's doing it 'right' according to the rulebook, because the out of region drivers for the most part expect things to be run by the book) -- sorry it affected you as bs.

But you reminded me of the other issue that's been discussed, that the divisional, as a series of Norpac events, doesn't provide the right incentives to get the participation that a divisional deserves.

At the upcoming NORPAC convention, the direction of a Divisional series will be discussed at length. I agree with the stance Dean has had all along...If there's no incentive, or organized series, then the events will fail. There is too much effort in both putting on the event, and attending them from a distance. I think given the state of the Divisional series (non-existant for the most-part) we should at least take a year off from hosting a divisional while the series is built.

Good. Are you going to attend that discussion (Mr. Director)?

The other troubling part of a divisional series, is that the two other major west coast events that are (were) part of it were National Tours. In NT's, you can also race for contingency winnings, cash or tire allowances, something not available here.

The rules say minimum of 3, there is no limitation to 3. You could run 7 for all the rule book cares. We Ran 4 on Sat. two years ago, and Kattie had a caniption! The series can't look like the tour because it isn't. it has to find it's own character/personality.

Yes, that was one of my points. Until the division has a concrete plan for marketing, and benefits for the series, it is a waste, and a burden. It was such a great thing to get my 2003 division "trophy" in June/July of 2004... What an incentive. Not!

That may be the Chief stewards role, but her methods and attitude are not approriate for a voulenteer organization.

The last unrelated straw for me was at Wendover while I was working the entry gate and Kattie and Kevin came blasting through the gate without slowing or stopping for arm band check, and ignoring my direction to slow down. The egos are out of control.

Who was driving?!
(Sorry, I know it wasn't funny at the time; I know others who agree with you on this point.)

Changing the subject - 3 weekends of club trials at RFR, are those locked in? I really want to get the rx8 out there ...

Kevin, but when I brought it up politely and privatly later to Kattie, she got all deffensive and pissy, not appoligetic. Kevin was a little better.

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-12-29 11:28 AM

Autocross already has a low payoff/work ratio even if you're doing 5 or 6 runs per day. If you get down to 3 runs, it's almost worthless. IMO.

Yes, Locked in and committed. Also, the roll bar rules have been lifted, so your car and mine are legal for trials. should be a lot of fun.
