I hear there is some flooding in the area...

That's our yard, it's maybe 2.5-3 feet at the deepest area.

Yeah, it's really pretty bad in Sparks. I woke up early and went and moved my big rig out to higher ground. My yard (where I park my truck) is on Kleppe Ln at Sparks Blvd, which is a very low point. As we were leaving, I had to go out near where Tire Rack is and the water was up to the bumper on my semi, and as high as the headlights on the Titan!!! (Carrie was following me). I got in just in time, as Sparks PD would not let people into thtat part of Sparks anymore. There was no safe way to get around over there, the water was pooling up pretty bad.
I moved my truck over near the waterpark/ Outback steakhouse off Sparks blvd...so it should be okay. Scary stuff...I was in the same spot back in 97 when it flooded, at least this time I won't have to sandbag |

A better shot of my house and me going out to check on the sheds. I'm 6' tall and the ruler is 3' for comparision. It was fucking cold as hell, it got deeper but I wasn't looking for a darwin award.

What is the deal with New Years and weather in Reno.
Last year assloads of snow, now assloads of rain. |
maybe even snow again!
|
Dean, good video.,...that is crazy up there!
So I went and checked out Pat's shop to see if our trailers were okay, so far so good, His shop sits significantly higher that other parts of that area. Also, my Sti is at C&C east of Downtown. C&C is about 100 yards from the River :( They also sit up really hi, so hopefully nothing bad happens. I decided to leave the car there and hope for the best. We shall see... |
The waterfall is now twice as wide, and road river twice as deep... The lights flickered once, and I realized I didn't have any generator gas inteh garage, so I took a trip. The view from McCarren west bridge over the truckee is amazing. dang close to '97 levels.
Anybody heard from the south end of town? Double Diamond under water? Damn JC. Good luck... |
Double Diamond is okay from the people i've talked to...Eric said there was a small sinkhole on Double R that swallowed a Camry (Nick are you ok?) But otherwise just some full backyards and gutters.
Mike K took a drive to Mt Rose highway and says it is hammered. He has a picture of a flooded car. |
Oh, and it's turning to snow at the top of McCarren, and Caughlin...
|
No snow on us. It has stopped altogether up here actually. Sun is even trying to peek through... but who knows how long that will last.

Some crappy used car place on south virginia, the 395 ramp on Mt Rose Highway and 395 bridge over South Virginia between Kietzke and Sth McCarren
|
The last two are nice parking jobs. Why do people think their cars will drive, much less continue to run in deep water. Unless you have a raised vehicle and know where you air intake is, why would you try it.
In addition to the countless idiots in cars, the big pickup sand SUVs forget that their engine needs air, and that electrical systems don't like water... There were a couple dead trucks on the news in only a foot of water or so, but dead because they either sucked up water, or more likley were going to fast and threw water up in to the electrical... |

That some great footage Dean! I'm down in Carson as well, visiting my folks place. The front of the house got sandbagged this morning, as they live in a neighborhood with similar geography (with a creek only 100ft from the back door). Fortunately, the drainage hasn't challenged the bags yet and things are flowing nicely. I was out last night around midnight in downtown Carson, and man there was a lot of flow down from the King's Canyon area!
A check of the Clear Creek USGS streamflow gauge data indicates that levels have reached the peak recorded in 1997. Fortunately due to the lack of snowpack, there is little chance for a region-wide repeat of that year's events (Carson, Walker, and Truckee levels not near the 1997 amounts). However, the localized flooding seems to be on par (side canyons, creeks, and low areas). The rain just turned to snow here on the slopes west of downtown Carson... |
I wanna see pics of the landslide on I80!
