As the resident Nascar fan here, I support the move. Although it really doesn't matter, the car will have very little "toyota" parts anyway. All Nascar cars are primarily the same, only the Body shape and Engines are different. Toyota will do fine, and I hope they win.

Nick Koan 2006-01-24 10:55 AM

Sweet. My car will be in NASCAR.

I'm all for breaking up the good ol' boys. It'll just be weird seeing a carburated V8 camry. You know the other teams are gonna gang up on 'em.

They may give them a tap from behind every now and then, but the front wheel drive will help pull them out of the slide...

MattR 2006-01-24 11:42 AM

RWD Camry FTW~!\

The good ole' boys club of Winston Cup is long since dead. Gordon & Evernham started its demise in the early 90s and it died completely in the last 5 years. There isn't going to be any of this "ganging up on the foreigner teams" crap. Each of those organizations running cars in the Cup series are highly professional & highly motivated to win. If there is a car on the track that they can work with to get to the front of the pack, they will use it - it doesn't matter what stickers the car has on the nose.

Yeah, its not like "the blacks" are driving those cars or anything.

/me still thinks NASCAR caters to the redneck despite all the money they're making. Nextel Cup may be big business, but the lower ranks of NASCAR are just as bad as they ever were, and that's where the fan base comes from. With all the money and talent in NASCAR, you'd expect to see a lot of South American drivers like you see in CART and IRL, as well as a percentage of black and female drivers that matches other series.

MPREZIV 2006-01-24 12:11 PM

"the blacks"

sorry, that amused the shit out of me!

Is that what you said when I joined the club!? " 'The blacks' have infested us!"

Yeah, I'm sure Scott's just commenting on the way typical NASCAR people still speak, and act. Haha...I laughed too.

sperry 2006-01-24 12:15 PM

Unlike george bush, sperry cares about black people.

(Actually, until mid-way through high school, just about all my friends were black. Then I got all emo and started hanging out with a different crowd at school... thank god going away to college rescued me from becoming a total dweeb.)

MPREZIV 2006-01-24 12:18 PM

I actually LOL'ed! People at work are looking at me funny now. . .

On topic: I think it's awesome that Toyota has taken advantage of the op. to jump in. I'm not hardly a NASCAR fan, in fact, quite the opposite, but every once in a while you need to stir the pot. Keep things competitive, and see some new shit out there, in every racing venue, just to keep it exciting. Otherwise you end up watching the same crap, season after season!

Now if they'd only get with the program and change the rule to allow OHC fuel injected motors. It's kinda retarded that teams like Toyota have to dust off their college text books from 1950 to figure out "what the hell those pushrod kajiggers are".

MPREZIV 2006-01-24 12:54 PM

True! With all of the advancements there are, i.e. F1, I can't believe they're still using carburetors for craps sake! Dammit man! Only in our country is it still cool to race in circles, or in a straight line for that matter! But that's another thread...

The fan base is still PWT, but the money involved at the top has distilled out all that crap. I was responding to the comments about antics on the track.

Wondering what drivers/teams are going to step up with Toyota....

code3con 2006-01-24 10:02 PM

hmmm I'm somewhat a nascar fan... I mean I have a favorite driver. I just don't know about this move.... however Ford used the taurus... and do they sell a RWD V8 taurus?? no.... Even the CHevy Monte Carlo.... well at least now they have a V8 in it... but it is still sold FWD.... So i guess having the CAmery in there isn't all that bad, since even the American cars that are sold are pussys... God Dodge is the only one that actually sells a RWD V8 that is in NASCAR.. It will probably work out. Where is the Subaru NASCAR racer???? The legacy would look great!

MattR 2006-01-24 11:21 PM

Ford is now running the Fusion, no more Taurus.
