FS: Mostly new RE070's

I have a set of RE070's for sale. I don't yet have them in my posession, they are in Sac.

These are the tires I was planning on running in auto-x this year, but it looks like the rules won't allow it (except for on STi's).

So, if anyone wants them, they still have a decent amount of tread left. I don't have the pictures to prove it yet, but they are good.

I paid $250 for them, so thats how much I'm asking.

225/45/17 for anyone who doesn't already know.

dibs.

I gotta figure out if the 255/40/17 RT-615's are worth the extra $350... but chances are, they aren't.

Nick Koan 2006-01-27 02:35 PM

sorry Deeds.

argh... I guess I need to start actively searching for 070's, that or just pick up ST-615's. I wanna do some track days this year. :)

The Hankooks are only about 106 each in 225/45-17, and $212 in 235/40-17 shipped from Discount Tire. Might be a good option if strapped for cash...

Edge Racing still has the 225/45-17 R215s for $112 each + $70 something for shipping. DT charges tac, Edge doesn't... It's a toss up. Hankooks appear to last longer and are at least OK in the wet.

Don't worry, Nick's taken care of... we're pulling the old "switcheroo" to get some legal Hankooks on his car, and I'm gonna try out the RE070's since I've never run my car on 'em before. ;)

Are you going to run on the RE070's then? How is that any more legal than Nick driving on them? I thought they were to be run on STi's only?

Street Mod inherrits tire rules for Stock, Street Prepared, and Street Touring, so the excemption to the 6 sizes on 4 diameters rule is active in SM. So I'm all set for TSM... but I don't even know if the tires will last that long, since I plan on running those RE070's at RFR and Sears Point before the season starts (assuming my car is together in time).

Basically I just want to play on the RE070's with my car just to get a feeling for 'em, since I've only ever driven 070's on MikeK's car. Plus by trading w/ Nick, we get him a set of legal tires for the season so he doesn't have to buy a new set.

Nick Koan 2006-01-27 05:02 PM

Right. With the Hankooks, I can stay in TESP, but with the 070's, I'd be limited to TSM, STU (or SM or whatever P or M class I am eligible for).

The way I read the rules, it seems to me that re070s are legal for running Street Touring. :?:

I think you're right. In addition to the 13.3.F exemption, the first line of 13.3 is "Any tire which is OE on a Stock-class eligible vehicle is permitted." It doesn't say it has to be on the same car- so shouldn't a Legacy GT be able to run RE070s?

I think Kevin is right. I totally mis/over interpreted that sentence previously. I inferred that it had to be on the same car when it clearly does not say that. Quick Nick, go put your tires back on your side of the garage...

Yes, they are fine for Stree Touring, but I was running Street Prepared, which I previously thought illegal (until Kevin brought down the smarts, so, I dunno whats up anymore).

The statement is ambigious. Within the context of discussing "whether or not a particular car is legal for Stock competition" that statement can easily imply the tires are legal if they are OE for the car we are discussing without implying the tire has to just be available on any stock car.

I'm not saying that that's what the SCCA is intending, I'm just saying that as written it's not 100% clear. Taken without context however, I would lean to the statement meaning that OE tires on any stock eligible car become legal for any other stock eligble car, and expect that if, say Dodge starts putting racing slicks on the PT Cruiser ( ) the tire would end up on the exclusion list.
