WRB painting

Ok, Ive got some cash comming back from the school and I'm getting a roof scoop. The only thing is that I need it painted. It isnt that big and I know if I took it to a body shop they would charge me a fortune. Any idea of where to go?

sperry 2006-02-07 08:57 PM

You can't afford goggles for your job, right? Perhaps the cost of painting a roof scoop shouldn't be a big concern... knowwhatimean? :P

sp00ln 2006-02-07 09:18 PM

Please dont get a roof scoop...

Agreed....They look pretty stupid on a street car. Plus you have to cut a whole in your roof to make it functional, and that will be really expensive to do it properly. (Please tell me you are going to make it functional at least).

I'm not trying to be a dick, but you always complain about having no money for tires, no money for goggles, etc...and you're going to spend it on a roof scoop? I don't get it, but whatever.

bxracer69 2006-02-07 11:47 PM

my job starts at the begining of april after I get back from my tour, I'm working on getting a contract with dragon optics right now, and if it comes down to it I will have enough cash to get another set of goggles to last the rest of this season. As for tires, Gramps hooked me up for X-mas, and cory put them on for me (thanks again man).

As for the roof scoop, primitive rally has it for $190. And YES it will be functional. By the end of summer, the car will once again have a WRC graphics kit on it and I think the roof scoop would be a great asset.

sp00ln 2006-02-08 12:40 AM

please dont... you dont drive a rally car :(

Sorry to dis your style but...

well, if you rally the bitch then I'll give you two thumbs up! But until then...

JonnydaJibba 2006-02-08 08:19 AM

There are places that won't rape you, if you do decide to get it and stuff. Only thing I could recommend is shop around.

khail19 2006-02-08 08:29 AM

I'm not afraid of breaking out the Sawzall/Dremel on my car, I've already cut holes in my fenders (sidemarkers) and hood (scoop), but I would never dream of cutting a hole in my roof for a scoop. I don't see what the point is unless you are removing your A/C and going full blown rally car. Then you've got leaks to worry about and if you ever sell the car not too many people will want a hole in the roof. Just a bad idea if you ask me. But it's your car, just make sure whoever does it knows what they are doing. As far as paint goes, any decent body shop should be able to color match WRB. I had my body kit done by a guy at Lithia, he did it on the side without going through the shop. That was back when I knew the body shop manager though, different guy now.

Agreed, that is really a terrible idea for a street car. You're going to destroy any remaining financial value of the car if you cut a big hole in the roof.

Big WRC vinyl kits and a roof scoop on a street car is retarded. If you're not racing in the WRC for Subaru, don't put that shit on your car.

M3n2c3 2006-02-08 11:39 AM

Bah. If you want to do it, do it. There are relatively few Imprezas running around with SWRT decals on 'em, so I always enjoy seeing one. It's just fun.

As far as the roof scoop goes, I know I'd love to have one of the pop-up low profile scoops like the Spec C. I think it'd be handy. Certainly no more pointless than a moonroof.

JonnydaJibba 2006-02-08 11:42 AM

Seems people in the UK and Japan love the WRC graphics, I think it looks sick, although I would never do it, it's cool to see I think.

JC 2006-02-08 08:11 PM

Get a Spec C one, they are sweet. Painting shouldn't cost too much.

Thats a buckin sweet garage!

sperry 2006-02-09 12:23 AM

If you're removing the A/C in your race car, I can understand thinking about a Spec-C vent... but I'd never consider an expensive scoop on my street car.

I like the idea of having one on a street car because I like to use the AC as little as possible. It'd be awesome to be able to just pop the roof vent rather than have to listen to my wife moan about having the windows down throughout most of the year. :P

The price is definitely a deterrent, though.

bxracer69 2006-02-09 10:37 AM

exactly, im all about having the fresh air comming through the car. last year I turned the A/C on once. The price for the spec-C vent is too much and that is why i want to go with the primitive version.

You realize that the primitive roof scoop goes *over* the Spec-C vent right?

bemani 2006-02-09 10:48 AM

Nah, just leave it open all the time.

Yeah, you still have to get a vent - the scoop is just a cover that's supposed to improve the airflow direction.

Unless you just want an open hole, and that could get kinda cold in the winter.

bxracer69 2006-02-09 12:38 PM

They have the vent/scoop combo for $180. http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/body.htm

scroll about half way down

His $190 price quote includes the vent and the scoop.
