Altamont gets a facelift

Very Intersting news, some big dollars are being pumped into Altamont. Looks like we may have another new road course to run on!

Altamont Motorsports Park, a subsidiary of Riverside Motorsports Park LLC, is fast-tracking construction efforts so that the short-track oval raceway located between Tracy and Livermore, Calif., will launch the 2006 season as a new multi-track, updated motorsports park. The overall plan is that by opening day in April, the historic 1/4- and 1/2-mile paved oval facility will feature more action on the track from the addition of 12 feet of racing surface on the 1/2-mile oval, and boast a complement of six tracks, with 18 possible configurations, and another track in planning. New tracks will include a road course, a figure-8 track, kart course and drifting course. A 1/8-mile drag strip is planned as a subsequent addition. Added to that will be safety and guest amenity improvements, including stadium lighting, safety walls, new pit area paving, technical facilities, new audio system, new restrooms, updated concession stands, and landscaping.

A quick google search found this: Altamont Facility Updates [Altamontracing.com, PDF] with a bit of a MS paint of the new course layout.

Yay for another close-ish track :D

Anything would be an improvment at that shithole. For starters, they could re-attach the broken flood light that's been hanging from its wiring for the last 4 years.
