Picking up Hitchhikers

I'de like to start a little disccusion on picking up hitch hikers.

as most of you have driven around tahoe some, i'm sure you've seen a large supluss of hitchhikers. Usually i don't pick anyone up, unless she's cute and on route to a ski resort.

but today when i was getting a sub from subway this guy came in, very disruat. aparently his grand father had just died and he had no way to get to the Y (the guy was in Sandels !?! wtf there is mad snow down) which was completly out of my way but i felt bad for him so i went ahead. so i drive all the way down to the Y and he has me make several stops so he can tell his cousins and the final house he wanted to be dropped off at, no one was home. so i ended up droping him off at the casinos.

:?: it all seemed rather weird to me. i'm not even 100% if what he told me was true i dunno. i really didn't get a bad Vibe from him, but i was a bit nervous . he told me that 2 guys (who were infront of subway) were trying to sell him a Gun. which really didn't set my mind at ease.

but i'm safe, he got a ride around town for some 50 minutes and i get to eat my cold subway @ my desk at work, insteaed of @ home playing some colin 05 breifly.

has anyone had any really bad experiance with hitchhikers? warnings? does anyone Always pick people up ?
anywho. this was definatly an odd lunch for me .

Signed, your loving post whore :P

Not so many years ago, one 4th of July, a friend and I hitched from The Boat House at Carnelian Bay, where the Coast Guard towed my dead boat, to Cave Rock, where the truck and trailer was.

Took two changes of cars. Old open top jeep to state line, and Nissan extended cab pickup from there. Would have gladly ridden in the bed, but the couple let us in the cab.

I'm not sure I would have done the same. I think if it was legal to carry passengers in the bed, I might with the pickup, but not likely with the other cars. Maybe if they had race seats and harnesesses, I would feel safer.

I'll pick them up if they are not crazy looking.

Dear diary: Jackpot!

I think not picking up hitchhikers is the best policy. Penthouse on the other hand....

OK here's a hint: At the Winnemucca challenge a few years ago two hot Basque girls and their blue ribbon-winning sheep need a ride home from the Humboldt County Fair when a red S2000 comes along...

cody 2006-03-15 09:09 PM

You gave them the car and rode the sheep?

Kevin M 2006-03-15 09:09 PM

... and apologizes to the girls for only having room for the sheep.

Sounds like the guy was making drug deliveries via Subaru general transit, and hoping to get a gun the process to car jack you.

In Tahoe I feel a little different about picking up people because a lot of people walk up there and don't drive. Especially during ski season. When I used to work at Sierra at Tahoe I'd give people rides a couple times a month at least. Scored a few cigarettes (I don't smoke) a few beers, and once a purple sock. Ok and a few joints (is my secret safe? Oh noes!) I once gave a kid a ride from highway 50 to Meyers, he said he was just going to walk the whole way. He was already like a mile up when I got him.
