Helix up/dp

Ok, so i gave in and just purchased the helix up/catless dp combo. Any more of you more experienced people want to help with the install?
I have a garage and probably all the necessary tools (+airtools).Tuesday, Wednessday, or Thursday next week? Day or Night? Help Please... Im not sure when the parts will arrive though.

I get off work at 5:30ish M-F. I could come help for a couple hours some evening. I installed my UP and DP myself so I have some experience.

Make sure you have lots of PB Blaster and borrow an O2 socket from AutoZone. :)

Or just use a wrench on it, you should already have a 3/4" or 7/8", whichever one it is.

^^I've got no time to help, but I DO have an 02 sensor socket you could swing by and pick up if you should need.

You know how to get ahold of me Cody!

Isn't the O2 wrench helpful since there is a wire and a heat shield to deal with? It's for the O2 in the stock UP.

Ah, yeah, that one. Probably very helpful if not outright necessary. Silly NA guys discussing turbo part installs... :D

cody 2006-03-16 12:37 PM

lol, thought so. Most DIY's say it's necessary. :)

There's no O2 sensor in the Up-Pipe... it's an EGT sensor, and it doesn't use an O2 sensor sized wrench to take out IIRC.

cody 2006-03-16 01:40 PM

Oh yah, you're technically correct Scott. The 02 sensor is in the exhaust manifold right next to the joint of the EM and the UP. You still need an O2 wrench to remove it.

Yes, the O2 sensor is in the passenger side header.

On every WRX I've worked on, I've made sure to take out the O2 sensor, then take off the lower heatshield and notch the hole in the heatshield so it may be removed/installed w/o having to take out the O2 sensor. Then, everytime the header needs to get dropped, all you have to do is unplug the O2 sensor from the wiring harness and leave it in the header.

Yah, I didn't cut the notch and it made it difficult to retorque all of the bolts after a heat cycle. (new copper gaskets). I'll never neglect to cut that notch again.

Do you have a catback? other wise this will not fit right with the DP from helix you need a TBE from helix to make it fit without cutting and welding aflt flang on the end of the DP and do have any kind of way to tune the car for your catless adventure such as a AP from COBB, ecutek anything others wise I wouldnt do this!!

renoguy20 2006-03-17 08:34 AM

Nevermind

The helix up/dp combo is on backorder for 4-5 weeks from gruppe-s. :(
