Shopping for Tires
Ok I need new autox tires, I’m on a 195-60r 14 right now and I rub. So I think I should go with a 185. I know a lot of you use the RE070, and really like them, but they don't make them in my size. Yokohama offers the Advan AO32Rs in that size, but they are competition tires, and I don't think I can use them on the street or in SM. Also should I go with a smaller series sidewall, like a 55 or 50? Any suggestions or inside info would be appreciated. Thank you.

if you stay on 14's you can't go with a smaller width tire AND have a smaller aspect ratio if you want to keep the same outer diameter size. (which maybe you don't want to, and maybe you are not on stock size at the moment) ?
this is linked to off the tire guide thread http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html |
You can use the A032s in any class but STS. They're great tires, even for the street with such a light car. another option are RT615s- I think they come in a 14" size, but it might be 195/60. Another possibility is wheel change or spacing. Are you rbbing inside or outside of the wheel? If it's inside, get some spacers and that might help. If it's outside, a wheel with a higher numerical offset could solve it.
And damn, I thought I had it bad, because I'm limited to 225/45R15s. |
A032's suck on the street! Extremely loud and stick to everything. Thet are however very fun on the track.

True, and besides, what's a set of 14" (or 13") steelies with cheap all-seasons cost? Like $9? :p

If you upgrade to 15s then you open up a ton more options for tires. Here are some cheap 15s, bundled with some nice tires like the Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 is only $609. Those Flik Blasts would look hot on your car.

You can get some 195/60R/14 Falken Azenis RT-615 tires for like $75/each. That tire is currently considered to be the cream of the crop for street tire competition tires. Then you can run TSM. 'Course the RT-615's tend to run wide, so if you're rubbing, these might be even worse... though you should be able to correct the problem w/ a combination of fender rolling, alignment, and wheel offset.

I happen to know of a fender roller in the vicinity, as well ;)
