ATTN cheesteak eaters:

The Philadelphia Cheesesteak Shop has opened its doors on Virginia St across from the Reno/Sparks Convention Center. No more driving to Truckee just for a cheesesteak. Hallelujah! Hope its not WTLW, but I just passed by and saw the grand opening banners....let there be much rejoicing and double-stamp tuesdays. New meet location? perhaps.
EDIT: Yes, I am a cheesteak fanboy.

Um, I've been eating at the one on Keitzkie for the 5 years I've lived in Reno.

You like that one? The Philly place is way better. I couldn't get into the one on Keitzke, yellow cheese, no peppers or onions. I grew up on the Philly place anyway, there must be twelve or more around the bay. Go try it if you haven't, you'll be hooked.

Is it the same as this place?

It's not "authentic", but they make a pretty good steak. Also, if you ask, they'll make it w/ provolone and peppers. But they don't pre-melt the cheese, so it's still not quite all there. However, I dig 'em... I'm not a cheesesteak connoisseur.

I tried the new place last week, and I still like the one on Kietzke better. There's one in Sparks on Pyramid as well. The one I got at the new place seemed like it was all bread and not much meat and cheese.

Hmm...must be the nostalgia for me, I've been hooked on these for about24 years so, you know how it goes. I personally like the melted white american cheese, but I don't know if the Pyramid is the same. Does it have the Liberty bell on the sign?

From what I understand, "authentic" uses cheez-whiz.....seriously. So authentic may not be the thing I'm seeking.

I believe the original Pat's steak was made w/ provolone. Cheese-Whiz is a more recent invention than the cheesesteak sammich... but damn it makes for a good and sloppy sandwich. Also, the Philly shop on Keitzke uses cheese-whiz... I'm surprised you didn't like 'em.

Just ate at the new one. I am now a cheese steak fan and I never cared for them before that.

The one on Pyramid is the same as the Kietzke shop as far as I can tell. Same menu and everything. And yes, an authentic Cheesesteak has cheese-whiz, although I like them with Provolone as well.

I was surprised myself. But Ive been religiously eating the others for way too long. Spinach and mushroom 15 incher FTW! The kietzke place made a decent gyro though, but my fave for that is still Opa subs by far.
