Lovelock weekend

Wife gave me a kitchen pass to stay in Lovelock for the next autox event. What is the plan? Do we have any specific hotel we are using or what one is OK?

I didn't go to last year's event, but I heard it was a really fun, really fast course. Almost a "time trials lite".

Lovelock as a town is a pretty cool too. They usually block out some rooms for us at the casino, and the happy hour drinks are cheap! So Saturday night is usually a kick in the pants with the drinks and banquet and car talk.

It should be a great event.

This is in responce to my post about Lovelock weekend.

I don't know where everyone will be staying. I also am going to need to work out some room space with someone. So, if anyone is interested in sharing a room, I would be down with it.

I am also interested to see who all is going to it. Also, how many runs will we get. Do the peeps from Idaho come down for this event also? If so, it could be interesting to get some more competition from some different drivers.

We usually stay it Sturgeon's Ramada Inn in Lovelock. They don't really have discount rates anymore, but I'd suggest booking now if you can, there's some dirt convention or some shit out there that weekend. Plus, there is a good bar and pool table here.

The alternative motel is the Lovelock Inn, very old school, but clean.

There are a few other motels, but I can not endorse them.

Also, Some of us (mikeK) like to go out Friday night and stay the nights Friday and Saturday, while others (me) like to drive directly from Reno Saturday morning, and only have to stay one night at the hotel. It's up to you, just be warned, it can turn into a very long day if you go my route.

MattR 2006-08-29 03:22 PM

I doubt there will be any out of towners at this event, it is usually our smallest attended event, but the most fun. Last year we split the day and ran 4 times in the morning, and 4 times on the afternoon, for 8 runs each day. That's why I said to plan on a longer day, becasue there's a chance you will run morning AND afternoon.

Last year's course was the most fun auto-x I've ever run, Mike K will agree.

I concur that I would agree with this. Matt has never run a more fun auto-x course! :P

I had more fun driving that course than the lovelock time trials course. The same people are running the event this year (Doug Driver and Jim Uchytil from memory) so hopfully the course will be the same.

Just reserved a room for Saturday night at the Sturgeon's Ramada Inn. SCCA rate is 54.19 for a single. She said there is a couple more events coming into town for that weekend and to get your rooms NOW. Later D-

Not likely this year because they published hard run groups, whereas last year, we didn't. Oops.

Dean 2006-08-29 04:38 PM

Sturgeon's Hotel & Casino (Not a Ramada any more I don't think)
1420 Cornell Ave.
Lovelock, NV 89419
Phone: 888-234-6835 or 775-273-2971 Fax: 775-273-2278

Rooms are going fast... I'm just staying Sat. night.

I would have totally missed out if that was the case since I wasn't planning on showing up till the afternoon on Saturday.

Should I make a point to show up in the morning?

MattR 2006-08-29 04:49 PM

I guess not, looks like its on the schedule as set run groups. We can find out for sure at the meeting next week.

Dean 2006-08-29 05:00 PM

Run groups are published as:
Sat: YBGW
Sun: WYBG

As the event is less than two weeks away, making a change would probably not be fair to people who already made plans based on the schedule.

I've got a room, but Cory has dibs on the second bed. You can buy discounted floor space if you want, and potentially get upgraded if he doesn't make it.

M3n2c3 2006-08-29 06:25 PM

I think I'm just going to drive out in the morning like last year.

I'll take the floor space. I don;t care. I have a sleeping pad. PM me the detials.

MattR 2006-09-01 05:09 PM

If the turn out is low at Lovelock (Derby Field) on 9/9 and 9/10 we will not have sufficient workers for four run groups. Drivers must be prepared to be there all day if we have to go to three run groups. We cannot determine the run group makeup until race day.

Don't miss this event. The surface is very smooth and the course looks fun. Jim Uchytil plans a two lapper at least one day. One advantage of a low turnout will be lots of runs. Most of the drivers that stay over night will be at Sturgeons

dknv 2006-09-01 08:56 PM

If there were more promotion of this event, we might not have to worry about the turnout being too low. Other than here, I haven't seen/heard any special news about it. Does anyone know, will there be a dinner gathering Saturday night? Scca room rates?

Next year we should also put a disclaimer on our schedule (if there's a possibility of run groups changing). As an example, I think LV region has a hotline phone number for people to call to find out the latest news.

Tahoe C5 2006-09-01 10:01 PM

I'm at the Lovelock Inn Friday and Saturday night, couldn't get both nights at Sturgeons. There may be a bed open depending when/if Mikey the Red Baron comes out. Always room on the floor. Sounds like it will be fun.

ok, have to take this back now. This morning I see John Evans sent an email/post to the yahoo mailing group list.

Joeyy 2006-09-08 03:17 PM

A close look at the weather and rain could play a part in this weekends event. Anyone learn anything from the last SCCA meeting about this weekend? Is there any changes to the run groups and is the course looking like a two lap deal or any info on it. Thanks for any information you all can provide before my long drive in the AM. Later D-

MattR 2006-09-08 03:52 PM

From what I was told, we need to plan to be there for the entire course of the day.

Nick Koan 2006-09-08 03:55 PM

Yeah, I'm going to be there now this evening instead of showing up tomorrow afternoon.

See you guys there!

sperry 2006-09-08 03:56 PM

I talked to MikeK about an hour ago, he's out there setting up the course. It sounds like they're trying very hard to make it a two lap course, and he told me the course looks very fast.

MattR 2006-09-08 04:06 PM

Yep,. I just spoke to him, looks like a VERY VERY VERY fast 2 lapper. It should be a blast.

M3n2c3 2006-09-08 06:26 PM

I won't make it this weekend as I now have a son who is, as of two minutes ago, just a day old.

I'm going to spend my weekend changing diapers and trying to sleep when I can. :P

NevadaSTi 2006-09-08 09:09 PM

Hey, congrats on the new son!!!!
