The New Guy

Hey everyone, this is Adam, the new guy. I saw a handfull of you at Bully's tonight and I was told that this is the site to visit. Incase you weren't there, or didn't hear earlier, I'm a recently graduated mechanical engineer from UNR who just bought a black '05 STI. I'm looking foreward to autocrossing next year, and that's all I can really think of to post right now...

Catch you all later and see you at Bully's next week.

Welcome! :)

Any mods?

Nice job making it out. You'll have plenty to look at on the board here. Welcome.

This is a great site with nice people. If you show up to one more meet you will beat my all time attendance record...damn me promising not to come out until my SC was on >_>.

Welcome. Look around, ask questions, and make fun of Nick when he misuses "then" and "than" :)

Why wait there's one October 7th and 8th, it's the last one of the season, you should come out, that way you know what to expect for next year.

Actually since he so rarely uses them correctly, you can also make fun of him when he actually gets it right.

Oh, and welcome to the board Rusty!

No mods. I just bought the car on Labor day so I've only had it for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if I'm going to really do anything to it either. Other than a free flowing air filter (possibly the whole cold air intake system, not sure yet), I'm pretty happy with the car as it is.

cody 2006-09-15 07:29 AM

Right on. The STi is pretty much moded from the factory. I'd skip the intake as most can damage the engine and even the ones that maintain the proper MAF housing diameter won't help you much if at all without tuning.

Not that you're asking, but if I bought an STi, all I'd add is an adjustable rear sway and get an alignment that increases neg. camber. I think the rear sway kicks you out of the Stock class in AutoX though. :( I'd probably get a custom tune for the ECU too.

Congrats on an excellent car. :)

If you want to stay in stock classes, a really beefy (i.e. 37mm) front swaybar helps the STI tremendously because it prevents the loss of negative camber up front while turning.

...there's more than one way to skin a cat, er make an STI turn.

Hey dude. I saw you yesterday but not sure if we actually met or not. You can learn a lot from the guys here and everyone is usually happy to help a brotha out. Most of the time anyway.

Nice to meet you last night.

You don't need to wait till next year, though, as we have our last event at Stead Airport on Oct. 7-8.

I'll second that!.. You really need to come out next month and get a taste of the cones. I ran the last even in 05 and could not get if off my mind all winter.

rusty470 2006-09-15 02:07 PM

Yeah, I'm going to try to make it out. I'm supposed to be in Tahoe the night of the 7th, but I don't see any problems with making it to both.

I've done a lot of emergency lane change testing where I work and I actually did a day of autocrossing at the Skip Barber Driving School in Laguna Seca, so I've had a taste of the cones... That's part of the reason that I bought this car. :D
