Mt Rose Highway Rant *Little Long*

/rant on

I just came up to get some things from my new apt in Incline since I am dog sitting for my parents this weekend. I have had some bad days on this road, but this takes the cake.
1.EVERYONE (besides me of course) was doing 15 over in the 4 lane part from the gas station till it merges to 1 lane each way.
2.A freaking Camry loaded with people and bikes trys to fly by me right near the merge, I will admit I did hit 70 real quick since they swerved near me and I already ahead, so braking may have been worse.
3.A Ford Freestyle I may have seen before is doing about 45, then a older acura, new jeep and then me, then 3 other cars. Its bad enough the Ford is doing 45, but why oh why Mr.Acura why do you need to keep 10+ car lengths away and do even slower. You yourself should have a used one of the many turn-outs the great state of NV provides, especially when a Jeep is inches from your rear bumper. You should have also gotten the hint when the Jeep turned off and I was doing 35 and having to brake hard to keep of your ass and blinked my highs.
3b. Now to you Mr.Ford, if you get over ALL the way to the shoulder after the summit AND start slowing down, don't start getting back over without a blinker and without speeding up, especially since I was about to pass you. Then dont start brake checking me when I am doing LESS than the speed limit DOWNHILL 2 car lengths back.

Last thing to both of you, when you are pretty much stopping in curves... GET THE FUCK OVER!

All I want to do is maintain the speed limit (maybe 5 over)....is that too much to ask?

One thing I forgot, GET OFF YOUR DAMN CELLPHONE when you are on a 2 lane, steep, curvy mountain pass.

/rant off

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

edit: a couple weeks ago I ended up behind a sheriffs suv going up, it was bliss...people maintained the speed limit or got over. I say either add a passing lane somewhere going up from Reno,Allow double line passing in certain areas under extreme circumstances, or have more patrols.

People in Reno can't drive. I would say maybe 1% of people on the road around here pay attention to what they're doing. That's about it.

Sounds like another couple of people that need their airbags replaced w/ 6" stainless steel spikes to encourage driver attention.

Yea, agree with that. I have driven from Iowa to Nevada and the worst drivers were in Reno.

I whish we gave licenses they do in Germany :(

I agree 125% with the last part also

I got stuck behind an old T-bird, coming down the hill one day. This guy was did not exceed twenty miles per hour the whole way down, and did like five through every corner. There was between fifteen and twenty car lined up behind this guy, and he would not use the turn outs. I'm on this guy’s bumper tiring to get him to use a turn out, and then he starts brake checking me, so I close the gap. It took us 40 min. to get down the hill. We finally get to the four lane section, I pull up along side this guy with the intent of yelling at him, then he flips me off, and starts yelling at me. All I could do was laugh it was the funniest thing ever.

I wonder if Hellas would help

Kevin M 2006-09-30 02:51 PM

I've had worse days on that road.

DARKSTI 2006-09-30 03:02 PM

Forgot to add, it seems to me that this is worst road for this, the other passes dont seem nearly as bad :?

tysonK 2006-09-30 03:05 PM

driving sucks.

This is why I mostly sit around at home in my underwear instead of doing stuff.

And then you brake checked him and got in a fist fight on the side of the highway? Oh wait that was me.

<--- glad he no longer has to drive that road

murphy 2006-10-03 09:19 AM

People just don't want to move over much...I got stuck behind a few people going up to Tahoe on the bike..they did not move over either shit happens..But hay DarkSTI your no saint either...you missed me on the freeway last week by only like 4 feet hauling ass on 395..I know you were just cutting over to because you were still pulling left when you passed me (very close).

MattR 2006-10-03 09:20 AM

Haha. Busted.

murphy 2006-10-03 09:22 AM

yup busted...the only thing that kept him from getting caught up to and having his mirror removed was his plate has his screen name on it.

Wasn't that with us?

But it does bug the shit outta me when people go slow like that, esp when they hold up more than just me. Isn't illegal or something to hold up 5 or more cars if you are going under the speed limit?

I believe the turnouts are required for any car w/ 3 (or maybe it was 5) following cars, regardless of relation to the speed limit. Even if you're going 100 mph, if there are 3 cars behind you, you have to pull over.

DARKSTI 2006-10-03 10:49 AM

Hey, I never said I was perfect  , where exactly on 395? I usually only go 70-73mph, so compared to a lot of people on that road, thats slow  Still sorry though :(
edit:if it was 80E merging to 395S, I admit I may get a over a little quick there, but I try to be slow since my only ticket so far was a unsafe lane change. I will watch it more :)

Amen to that. Us "cagers" need to watch out for our two wheel brethren. Except for harley riders. After the bullshit I had to put up w/ during this year's Street Vibrations, those dirtbags can DIAAFI (Die In An Accidental Ford Impact).

DARKSTI 2006-10-03 01:41 PM

Oh, ok I think i remember. You were on a bike correct? I thought I waved sorry... :~: Actually speaking of keeping a eye out, you can ask my mom how I am about that, whenever I am around a bike, I almost over-cocentrate on making sure where they are :D

Yes, its called "Impeding Traffic". ;)

Kevin M 2006-10-03 03:51 PM

No, it's called Failure to Yield the Right of Way.

:fail:;)

Joeyy 2006-10-03 03:57 PM

O really, we have an expert on our hands. :?:

Pat R. 2006-10-03 04:01 PM
