Holy crap, will US soccer (football for you crazy foreigners) get legit?

Looks like Beckham is coming to the L.A. Galaxy!?

Granted, he's getting up there in age and has lost a step, but he's still probably the biggest name in football since Pele. Hell, even us dumb Americans know him (if not just as the bloke giving it to a Spice Girl).

Anyway, I thought it was mildly interesting news for US sports... soccer is a great game, I'd love to see it get more popular here!

I'm sure he'll help grow the sport. Indoor soccer during college was a blast.

I've always found soccer more fun to play than sit and watch. Kinda like baseball. Loved playing, but I grow bored FAST watching on TV...

Well, how about watching, like at a stadium, where there is a possibility of the crowd going ballistic & rioting?

I would love to see soccer become the 5th "major" sport. This is definitely a step towards that. If Beckham is successful here but not dominant it will really give American soccer a boost.

Damn thats a shitload of money.

I hope they start televising it, but much like Cory, I enjoy playing far more than watching.

It may be good for American soccer, but it's the end of his career.

Yeah he's not really respected much anymore in europe. It's sure not the end to his money making career.

I felt the same way until I got to go to a World Cup game the third week I got here. I'm all about soccer now

I love watching soccer on TV... it's got sort of a zen flow about it... sort of a perpetual excitement that ebs and flows. Rather than US football, where it's a bunch of standing around and walking, then 15 seconds of explosive action, then a bunch of standing around... or baseball that's 99.9% nothing happening but strategizing (a physics professor of mine timed with a stop watch the total time the ball was in flight during a 3 hour baseball game... it was like 30 seconds. But don't get me wrong, I love baseball!)

Soccer is a blast to play ---- one of the sports I sacrificed a knee to.......not really interested in watching it, though.

I love watching american football ... I can watch a whole match in 40 minutes with my DVR. The best part is not even skipping the long pauses or the commercials, it's not having to listen to the moron commentators trying to force those pesky words into sentences (and failing).
