Sorry about the snow...

...that will be falling next week. I washed the car and put my summer wheels/tires on the SVX.

For those that haven't seen 'em:

Enkei RPF1
Silver
17"x9" +45 5x114.3
~15 lbs
255/40/17 Falken ST-115 tires

I bought the wheels for the WRX, but since they're designed to be *rear* only RX-8 wheels, the spokes don't clear my StopTechs. But they clear the OEM SVX brakes, so instead of getting rid of them, I just started using my A-Tech on the WRX, and put these on the daily driver.

sperry 2007-03-13 03:04 PM

BTW: I need some center caps for these things... anyone know where to get 'em? I can't seem to find anyone that will sell them separate from the wheels.

khail19 2007-03-13 03:05 PM

Crap, double snow! I just put on my summer wheels during my lunchbreak. We're screwed.

I wish those ST-115s were still available to buy, I loved those for street tires.

ScottyS 2007-03-13 03:11 PM

YOU!!!!!!

And I just started trail running again.

MPREZIV 2007-03-13 03:11 PM

We're screwed... I put mine on a couple weeks ago, and then it snowed, but I had the car waxed just this weekend...

MattR 2007-03-13 03:16 PM

I have a set of rays centercaps you can have for like $400. let me know.

And since when did Falken discontinue the ST-115? They're still listed on Falken's website, and a quick search seems to indicate there are a bunch of places online selling them...

I was planning on getting another set once these are worn out!

JonnydaJibba 2007-03-13 03:22 PM

Maybe I can offset the impending snow because I have studded tires and its like 75* outside?

Given how many perpetrators are involved, I think that in addition to you, one of us will have to chain up for the drive home from work today......

I was a huge fan of the ST 115, but I will never go back once I tried the Ziex 512...The ZE512 is good in the wet, almost as quiet as the 115, AND will get you home in the snow. They are nice on dry roads as well.

But I've got snow tires, and the prices came down on the ST-115... under $100/ea in 255's. I don't even know if you can get the 512's in 255s...

MattR 2007-03-13 03:40 PM

Word. Good call.

Sid has a whole bunch of different round stickers that might work.

Here are the official caps for $29 each... Ouch...

http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda.../60-1080b.html

These might work:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=300090545896

Though I think it is closer to 2" 9/16 or 65mm

Racing Dynamics cap might be a better choice.

BBS?

I'm not sure how much tread I have left on my 512s (I've put many miles on them in the last year) but they just started getting pretty noisy. . . :( It's not particularly loud, but I can definitely hear them from inside the car.

Well, Good-Win did bend over backwards to sell me 4 rear RX-8 RPF1's at a great price... I guess I can stomach the expensive caps from them... but man, almost $130 after shipping... ain't that a bitch. :(

It's a good thing you're a baller and all. Those are more than Volk Racing caps.

Edit: I totally got that link in early enough to be useful.

This tire has been replaced by the FK-452, a new and improved version of the ST-115. This tire improves upon the ST-115's already great handling. It also offers less road noise and better wet weather traction. The FK-452 has been designed to match with your existing ST-115's, so you do not have to replace an entire set at the same time. Just be sure to mount your new FK452's in the rear of your car for the best handling characteristics and safety.

I checked Vulcan and Discount Tire and neither place has them anymore. Where are you finding them?

Dean 2007-03-13 08:53 PM

Khumho SPTs would be a good alternative. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=ECSTA+SPT

I have a set and have really liked them.

I don't see them in stock on any of those sites. Most of them are just reviews.

All I know is when it was mentioned that they were discontinued, I hit google, and clicked on like 3 places that were listing them... so even if they're not making 'em anymore, they're still for sale out there.

Either way, the replacement for 'em is like $119/tire in 255/40/17, so it's not the end of the world... I won't have to spend $1000 on SVX tires the next time around for decent hi-perf 255's.
