My Neighbor Just Bought a Audi RS-6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Attachment(s)
This is the most beautiful car I have seen. He even revved his engine and told me he will take me for a test drive someday. He might even make the meet tonight! Mind you this is the fastest production sedan people have said.

Here are some stats:

450 Horsepower
413 lbs of Torque

155 mph elctronically limited top-speed
AWD quarttro - 5-Speed Tiptronic Auto (paddle shift)
0-60 in 4.6 secs

Front suspension - Four-Link Suspension w/Anti-Roll Bar, Single Tube Shock, Coil Springs

Rear suspension - Double Wishbones w/Anti-Roll Bar

...and weighs in at 4,057 lbs!!!

This is one bad mo-fo.

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-08-28 12:51 PM

Good lord, 4057lbs?? Did they make the frame rails out of lead or something? BMW did that with the M5 too. I don't know why manufacturers are making such f'ing heavy cars these days, there's no good reason for that. That car may be fast as it is, but it would sure as hell be a lot faster minus 1000lbs.

Very very true. Maybe its all the extras that make the car luxery. Like the leather with heating and cooling, the sunroof, etc...you get me.

and BMW did kinda learn there lesson when the produced the M3 CSL (?). It basically is a gutted M3 that is fast as hell. A lot lighter then the normall M3. Doesn't even have A/C or a stereo.

BOO 2003-08-28 02:52 PM

No stereo?? sound familiar?? STi ??? ...

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-08-29 07:28 AM

BMW started making a lightweight M3 years ago...

Hey, you know all that noise and clunking and tranny noise and dash creaks and exhaust noise your 3200lb, 250hp car has? Try adding another 200hp and a ginormous automatic tranny to it and keep it quiet and buttoned down... you'll see how good they did keeping the weight under 4500lbs!

Same deal with the M5.... if you want a "luxury" car ride and "sports" car handling you end up with a heavy-ass car with TONS of horsepower. And even then, the handling is gonna suffer from the weight, even if its 0-60 numbers are in Corvette's neighborhood.

The mistakes they made with the RS-6... that tranny has GOT to go. If you're gonna bother with paddle shifters, they better be connected to an SMG-esque sequential gearbox. Tiptronic is CRAP. It's just a plain old auto-tranny that the user can ask, "hey, you mind shifting now? no? okay, well, I'll just wait then for you to shift when you want." If you're gonna have a sequential gerabox, when you hit the button, that fucker needs to clutch in, gear out, clutch out, auto blip the throttle, clutch in, gear in, clutch out RIGHT NOW. Otherwise, a plain old 6 speed is better.

The other mistake was the looks of the car... 'cept for the cool RS6 badge, it still looks like every other A6/S6 to me. They should have given it some less subtle changes so the general public knows that things a beast... like special edition rims, a little extra body cladding, some extra brake vents or something!

My step-father has a A6 and I have to say the RS-6 looks much much different. It is wider, has a rear lip, rear end looks very different with the bottom lip and exhaust, front end looks much meaner. Overall, its not huge differences, but the Audi owners sure can tell. Kinda like looking at our '03 WRX's to the '04's. Sure they are a little different. Some people might not even notice minus the headlights, but we notice every little thing.

The onlr RS-6 I've seen in person was a gray wagon on the freeway, and I didn't think it looked all that different from the S6... maybe that's just because it was the wagon, and I've never even seen a S6 wagon before...

ArthurS 2003-08-29 08:23 AM

Are you sure it was a RS-6? and not a RS-4? RS-6's are pretty damn rare and new this year to the states. Maybe the wagon was here before? Not sure.

My neighbor down the street now has a M5. What the hell is up with all my neighbors getting sick cars. :x

It was an RS-6... it was still covered with the stickers and stuff and had dealer plates on it.

Maybe that's my problem with these cars... they're a total compromise, and I'm a purist (as you well know  ). "Luxury/sports" sedan is a contradiction in terms to me.. you can do one or the other really well, but try and mix both and you're gonna end up lacking.

I would have to agree with you. But why not have some get up and go while having luxery. The RS-6 is definatly not the best auto-x or track vehicle on the market, but in town when you need to move the heavy beast, might as well have the power. Unlike the Rolls Royce, which is extremly heavy, and fairly slow (not the newer models) the RS-6 is still very luxery while having the underbelly that can make it move if it needs it.

sperry 2003-08-29 12:39 PM

I think the market cars like the M5 and RS6 are after is the high end luxury market, not the "sports cars that are luxurious" market.

Basically there's a finite amount of luxury you can cram into a car... I mean once you've got an interior like the M5 or RS6 has, the next step is just gold plating everything so it costs more.

So instead of that, they just make the cars faster and faster. I don't htink they're pretending to be sports cars necessarily... it's just now Joe Schmo can say... "yeah my car's as nice as yours, but mine's twice as fast".

Any real sports car with just half the power would kill 'em on a track, since a track isn't where the M5 and RS6 belong. They belong in a rich guy's garage getting washed once a week by the "help".

Now then, when I get my STi Legacy with 450hp and a luxury interior, I'm putting it on a weight reduction and turning it into a fast-ass trackable daily driver. However, I have no pretences that it will ever be as fast as an Impreza could be. But I plan on having a dedicated track car some day anyway. :P

Like the AWD dude, Dean!!!

tysonK 2003-08-30 01:05 PM

I'd drive it.

HARD!

BOO 2003-08-30 03:38 PM

Amen TYSON............. Amen!!!

ArthurS 2003-09-05 12:38 PM

OKay.....that awsome company - Henessesy Motorsports - The company that produced the 1,100 horsepower Viper that does 0-60 in 1.85 seconds and 1/4 in 9.66 without NOS and 8.93 with NOS - Brings us a new kit for the RS6!

Not that it wasn't fast enough, but now you can make it go up to 600 horsepower.

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/...ctionReq=Where

I don't know about you guys, but for a automatic luxery supercar that can do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds is pretty damn good. Just costs a additional 30k

STIwish 2003-09-05 12:54 PM

Did you just use the term NOS Art? u should be ashamed

Henessey uses 'NOS' not 'NX'. Sorry but it is still impressive! That 1,100 horsepower viper can go 0-100 in a est. 5 seconds. I would crap myself if that would happen. That beats some of the fastest streetbikes easily.

For a lot cheaper I can go 0-100 that fast... an $80k car + $30k = $110,000... you can build a funny car dragster for that much and run in the 5's.... or spend less on a pro stocker and go as fast as the Viper Hennesy.

But, what's impressive about the Viper... it can turn too.

ArthurS 2003-09-05 01:25 PM

Thats true, but this one can roll on the street. There have been test-drives were they said that it is not loud but exotic sounding, so when cruisin the streets, no one knows its potential.

Not saying I would do that to my car. Hell, I would never consider even owning a Viper. But it is still impressive to see the numbers.

It took Cobb Tuning about 25k for the car and another 85k to make the Conebasher run its times like it does. So I figure for street-legal or almost street-legal cars, thats right around the right price for a 0-60 in 2.0 sec or below car.

$4442.00 PER RUN.

sperry 2003-09-05 01:52 PM

I'm clowning if the Viper costs $3000 a run. :P
