Full Pillar Pods that fit the Wagon! Finally.

Well, I was doing some searches and found a company that is producing a full pillar pod for the '02 to '04 WRX Wagons. You can only get the 3-pod setup right now.

It is 44.99$ +shipping and you can add another 7.99$ to have it painted the same as the stock a-pillar.

Gauges have to be 2 1/16". Iam not sure what that comes out to in MM.

2 1/16" is 52mm IIRC... the same as your current gauges!

Ohh... I just clicked your link... the Lo-Tek pods are notoriously bad... the Sedan pods were out for a while and everyone waited for Autometer to release theirs... maybe Lo-Tek's quality's gotten better recently tho... I'd check out some reviews on NASIOC or I-Club 1st.

I did plenty of searches. I did find out they used to suck ass....but in my opinion that fairly cheap if it fixes the problem that all wagon owners have. If it sucks....oh well...back to autometer.

I would need one more gauge though. I would like the Autometer Temperature gauge. Do you know what style gauges I have now? Might be kinda hard to find. Not sure. Time to look.

Scott, is this the right series?

Mechanical:
3351 - Trans. Temp. 140°-280°F (8 ft. tubing)
Above temperature gauges include a 1/2" NPT fitting and capillary tubing (length noted by description).

Electrical:
3357 - Transmission Temp 100°-250°F
Includes 1/8" electric sender, 3/8" & 1/2" NPT fittings. (Not Shown)

Should I go electrical?

And then you just used green bulb covers for the green needles?

sperry 2003-09-02 01:28 PM

That's it, Auto-Meter Sport Comp! Definately get the electrical gauge, or you'll have a tube full of tranny fluid flowing into the cockpit.. not fun if it were to ever spring a leak.

what about with a water temperature gauage? Electrical for the same reason I assume?

yep

Scott, were did you buy your autometer gauges? I have been looking everywhere online.

Summit

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-09-09 09:23 AM

Get full-sweep instead of 90* sweep electrical if you can, that way the gauge is a lot more useful... linear scale and higher resolution.

ArthurS 2003-09-09 09:51 AM

Hhmmmm.....I wonder if the one i called on was full sweep or not?

ArthurS 2003-09-09 09:53 AM

Okay, here are the list of full sweep autometer sport-comp gauges:

http://www.autometer.com/hp/2003_catalog/racing/50.html

The ones I need are not listed.

sperry 2003-09-09 09:53 AM

Autometer doesn't make full sweep electic gauges.... except for their $200 boost gauge.

All full sweep autometers are mechanical which is fine in a race car, but I'd like to keep oil and water out of the passenger compartment.

That is unless they've release a whole new line of gauges in the last year that I don't know about.

Look at link above. All electrical full-sweep. Just no water or tranny temp.

I see several links for full-sweep electrical.. the C2 section in particular has a transmission temp gauge.

sperry 2003-09-09 10:31 AM

AFAIK here's the list of AutoMeter Sport-Comp 52mm Full Sweep Electrical Gauges:

15psi max Boost gauge ~$200
30pst max Boost gauge ~$200

That's it. They may have added more, but those are the only ones I remember that would be usefull in a WRX in a 52mm Sport Comp gauge.

I don't show it has the tranny temp gauge in 2-1/16". I only show:

3343

Pyrometer 0-1600°F
The above pyrometer uses a type K thermocouple. Requires purchase of probe, see Accessories section.

3344
3544
Pyrometer Kit 0-1600°F
Kit includes probe and 8 ft. wire. (Not Shown)

3361
3561
Fuel Pressure 0-15 PSI
Electric Fuel Pressure Gauges can be safely mounted inside the driver’s compartment without the need for an isolator.

3363
3563
Fuel Pressure 0-100 PSI
The above fuel pressure gauges are full sweep electric, includes 1/8" NPT sender.

3569
Low Temp. Water Temp. 60-210deg F
These revolutionary new gauges feature a low range of 60-210deg F that monitors critical engine warm up during staging. Never before have drivers been able to accurately read this low temperature range. Up to 210deg allows water temps to be monitored coming out of the staging lanes, into the burnout box coming up to starting line, and through the end of the run.

3372

Single Channel Intake Temperature 30-300deg F
Single channel intake temperature includes temperature module and fast response thermocouple probe. (Not Shown)

3373

2-Channel Intake Temperature
30-400deg F
2-Channel intake temperature includes temperature module and 2 fast response thermocouple probes. (Not Shown)

3374
3574
Nitrous Pressure 0-1600 PSI
Includes 1/8" NPT sender and 8' wiring harness.

3375

Air Fuel Ratio Gauge
Works with most OEM and aftermarket oxygen sensors, if sensor is needed - see model 2244.

3376

Boost 30 in Hg.-Vac./15 PSI w/Peak Memory and Warning
Includes sender and universal T-fitting.

3377

Boost 30 in Hg.-Vac./30 PSI w/Peak Memory and Warning
Includes sender and universal T-fitting.

Austin's not limiting only to Sport-Comp gauges... they have other "riced out" gauge lines that are full sweep electrical.

I just don't think this would look good in a WRX, especially one that alread has a bunch of Sport-Comp gauges:

ArthurS 2003-09-09 11:07 AM

Agreed. I was looking in just sport-comp.

tysonK 2003-09-09 07:21 PM

no way that's fuckin bad ass!

ArthurS 2003-09-09 09:54 PM

3 Attachment(s)
I bought the Autometer Trnasmission Temperature Gauge (3357).

lemme know if you want help building a harness so that'll wire in with the rest of your gauges... I should still have access to all the wires and connectors.

That would be awsome Scott! I am clueless when it comes to wiring. This is going to go the the 3-gauge A-pillar Pod that I am ordering. So I will need some help. The Water-Temp gauge will go where the clock is in the center gauge pod, but I am not going to worry about that one yet.

Just for logistics sake, I'd put Boost, EGT and Oil Pressure in the A-pillar and Oil, Water, and Tranny Temps in the center pod... might as well keep the temps close together, and the more important gauges at eye level. The beauty of the wiring harnesses I made is that they're pretty much interchangeable... you can put the gauges in any order and just daisy-chain them together. The only problem is that you'll need 2 more signal lines in the harness, which means we'll either need to switch *all* the plugs to 12 pin, or the new gauges will have seperately wired signal lines.
