Official NASCAR thread...(spoilers)

Starting this thread so there is a consistent place for NASCAR discussions kind of like the F1 thread only without all the attitude. :)

JPM is coming... I was really impressed with his performance at Indy this weekend. Qualified and ran very well. I don't think he is going to make the chase this year, but it would be so cool if he did.

If his team can keep giving him the cars, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his first oval win this year. You could tell he really wanted it yesterday.

Damn Smoke just had too good of a car. Though "Here Kitty, Kitty" was some funny $41+! And taking both hands off the wheel to get a drink... Now that is relaxed and a car you can trust...

I think you're deluded if you expect a motorsports discussion thread on this board devoid of snarkiness. :D

I was never a JPM fan when he was in F1 but I find myself cheering for him on the ovals.

I'm adding to the discussion :p

"turnin' left... goin' straight... turnin' left... then goin' straight again"

Oh shit that's hilarious!!!

Go straighter...

Wouldn't work for this week's Busch race.

Or next week's Watkins Glen.

Wow, the list of Road Race talent is huge this weekend, Max papis, Andy Lally, Patrick Carpentier, damn.

Kevin M 2007-08-02 03:12 PM

Is that Cup or Busch?

I know. I can't decide what to DVR. That race, or X-Games. I may have to fire up one of them there VCR thingamajigers.

MattR 2007-08-02 03:31 PM

Nick, It's Busch Series... Also, looks like Ambrose is 3rd on the Speed chart after final practice. Hell yeah.

What kinda DVR can't record two things at once? Are you living in Feb of 2007 or what!? Get with the times man... it's August! :P

For all you NASCAR guys,

Greg Biffle is running a Wii stickered Fusion at Dover in September. Nintendo is giving away two tickets to the race, plus a chance to play Wii Sports agains Biffle.

Leave it to Robby Gordon to embarrass himself and ruin the race for everyone. Marcos should have passed him clean though, he would have gotten him..I was pulling for Marcos, I thought he had it, but it just turned into a dirty crashfest at the end. Well, should be an interesting race next weekend when they go to Watkins glen.

sperry 2007-08-04 08:30 PM

Man, all I saw was the end of the Arca Pocono race... which was actually really sweet. Leader ran out of fuel coming off 3 on the last lap, just yards from the finish. Pretty amazing.

Wow... I really like Robby until now. I bet he gets slapped hard by NASCAR. I'm amazed there is no in-car that shows his magic pass complete with fender crumpling of Marcos.

Attention one and all, Kyle Bush is going to be Tony Stewart's new team mate!...:D

What's he going to do to Tony Stewart's teammate?

MattR 2007-08-07 04:01 PM

yeah, Hopefully Gibbs will give that POS JJ Yeley the boot. JJ needs to go back to sprint cars.

In a strange twist if events, Robby Gordon's Nextel Cup team will be fielding a secong car in the Cup race at the Glen this coming weekend, the driver named...Marcos Ambrose. I peace offering according to Robby. Now that's some cool shit. The #77 Ford will be entered and driven by Marcos. Of course, he is not guaranteed a spot in the race, so he has to get in on time. Shouldn't be a big issue given the pace he's shown in road races thus far. I can tell Robby and Marcos have a mutual respect, they are both fierce competitors. Anone who's seen V8supercar racing in recent years knows what a competitor Marcos can be.

Kevin M 2007-08-07 10:28 PM

Gordon owns his team right? So that means he's not simply under orders from the management to not act like a douche, and is makign this happen on his own? Why can't he think like that behind the wheel?

I think being an owner/driver is part of the reason he acts teh way he does. No serious business owner would want him as a driver. I am amazed he can get sponsors with the crap he pulled last weekend in Canada.

I still haven't watched Pocono yet.

MattR 2007-08-08 08:20 AM

You're not missing much in the Pocono Race. Pretty boring actually. Little passing, no strategy, run away winner.
