WTB: Stock Wagon Struts (preferably blown)

I don't have the stock struts that came on my car but I figure I'll put my feelers out for a set to install Koni Inserts into if I can find them for dirt cheap. Ideally they would be worn out and real cheap since I would hack them up and put Koni Inserts in them.

If you only have only the fronts I still might be interested. I'd really prefer that they'd be from a wagon, but if you're giving some sedan ones away, I'll take them instead. :)

Edit: I've learned recently that the MY 02-03 spring perches are a touch wider plus they require the "washer mod" in order to use the Post-Bugeye tophats I run. That said, I really am looking for stock MY 04-07 wagon struts. :)

Why don't I save you a shitload of money:

Instead of buying new inserts, just get these rebuilt.

cody 2007-07-30 10:19 AM

Soooo you're saying that once I find donor stock housings, I have your Koni Inserts rebuilt and use those instead of new ones? Are they the same Koni Inserts that I'd be buying anyway?

For less than the cost of inserts, you can have inserts, in housings, with adjustable ride height. These things are just sitting around my garage, I'll sell 'em to you cheap.

cody 2007-07-30 10:39 AM

Yah, but then I have to go to stiffer springs right? I can't use the Crucials with your housings correct?

You won't need stiffer springs if you're rebuilding the struts for soft springs. But the perches will be 2.5" ID, so the Crucial springs won't work unless you weld on a stock perch somehow (in which case don't bother).

My point was simply that I've got a set of Koni's with G/C perches I'll hook you up with for cheap. I can't imagine rebuilding these things won't save you a bunch over the cost of buying used struts, gutting them and installing new Koni inserts. You should be able to set these things up with the same spring rates (and even progressive rates if you do helper springs) and ride height as the Crucial/Koni inserts, plus have the option for height adjustability and stiffer springs in the future.

Just an offer, I realize it's out of line with your original plan.

Ack, I don't want a FrankenSubie too. :P

Let me think about it. I do like inexpensive local parts.

It's not all that Frankesuby... Koni/GC coilovers are pretty much the standard for custom spec'd coilovers without getting into the $1200/corner type prices.

Just start racing something with no suspension. Then your left to figure out how to adjust something that really isn't there.:~:

cody 2008-02-21 08:27 AM

In order for my ass to fit in a kart, it'd have to be car size anyway. :~

Edited the first post.

I'm now looking for stock MY 04-07 wagon struts only. :)

sybir 2008-02-21 08:37 AM

Ummm, at the risk of sounding dense, I realize the lower spring perches are a touch wider (doesn't that correspond to the springs you're running?) but whatever the top part of a bugeye strut looks like.............kinda goes out the window with a new insert.

Or are you already running 04+ struts and springs?

sybir 2008-02-21 08:38 AM

Reason I ask is this: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179611

cody 2008-02-21 08:56 AM

I'm running 04+ Springs on KYB AGX which does require the washer mod and running two camber bolts in each front strut to get enough neg. camber. But you're right, regardless of what strut I use, I won't have to do the washer mod becuause the Koni's are MY04-07 fitment. I just brain farted.

But the lower perch on bugeye struts isn't ideal for fitment (even though I currently have 0 problems) so I just want to get perfect fitment.

Thanks for the link! I'll have to keep an eye on eye club.

A little steep, but they're there. He quoted me $210 shipped (which is the clincher).

I'm looking too. Just picked up Konis and RCE wagon springs from RCE's sale. $799 shipped for the lot.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1457144

You're looking for 04+ now right? RCE told me that the strut housing year doesn't matter outside of being for a wagon, they made me believe that the insert being for 04+ would eliminate the need for TiC washers. You know any different?

cody 2008-03-06 05:52 PM

Yah, with the inserts, you won't need to washer/TiC mod, but bugeye springs are a touch larger in diameter than MY04-07 springs. I'm currently running the MY04-07 fitment Crucial springs on the KYB AGX struts which are bugeye fitment (I believe) without issue. I had zero issues with the Eibach (bugeye fitment) springs as well. However, I've heard that when using bugeye struts with later MY springs, the smaller diameter springs can make noises and they just don't seat right sometimes.

I don't know, but I'm going to hold out for some totally dead (or otherwise cheap) stock MY04-07 stock wagon stuts.

left footed whooten 2008-03-06 06:06 PM

Yup. The shipping pretty much kills it.
