Volunteers Needed For Street Survival
Reno Region members have a rare opportunity to help provide what many consider to be a valuable community service. The newly formed Sierra Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America is holding a Street Survival teen driving safety school at Mt. Rose on August 25th and they could use some help. The event is `sold out'. The 30 seats filled very quickly. The Reno Region SCCA will loan pylons and other equipment for this event but what is really needed is fifteen people from our
region to help out as Instructors.
Simply put, Street Survival is about saving lives by teaching teen drivers some of the basics of car control and to help them understand how their actions govern a car's responses; and as a result to become safer, more effective drivers on the road.
Your experience driving in Solo or Track events certainly translates to knowledge of car control that most people do not gain in a lifetime of driving on the street. Won't you please give serious consideration to passing some of that knowledge along to new teen drivers? By doing so, you just might save their life.
An added benefit of attending this event is to see first hand how it all works and what is involved in holding a teen driving safety school in preparation for the Reno Region possibly hosting an event later this year or next spring. The event starts at 9:00am so if you decide to help, please plan to arrive by 8:30am and finish by 4:00pm. Water and Lunch will be provided but bring your own sun shade umbrella, sunscreen and folding chair. Please sign up in advance by mailing the attached so we can let the Street Survival organizers know what to expect.
