Cingular Phones

To make a bad day even better. My phone took a shit today after lunch. All of a sudden it just died. I was unable to turn it back on, so off to the cingular store I go. They tell me, its broke, call 1 800 yadayada. They also tell me to try Radio Shack at the mall. So, I go there and they tell me, sorry we don't carry that phone. Try the cingular / att in the mall. So, off I head to the booth. They take a look at the phone and tell me the same thing that the first cingular store told. Its broke, call yadayada.

So I get back to work and call the number. Get this, I've had this new phone since the end of October last year. So they tell me it covered under a one year replacement policy. The nice lady on the phone tells me a bunch of legal stuff, in which she makes this statement,

"Your new replacement phone will finish out the warranty period on your original phone."

She then asked me if I understand these terms and policies.

I respond, "What a second. Are you saying that my NEW phone will only have a two month warranty on it?" She replies, "Yes."

I respond, "That's gay."

She says, "Please state your initials as exceptance for these terms."

I respond, "BD"

So, in two days I will get a brand new phone, loose all my personal pictures of my son, and only be covered for the warranty through to the end of October. Damnit, if I didn't have 14 months worth of policy left, I would have told them to shove the phone where it doesn't shine. Considering its black, they might have a hard time finding it.

Stupid contracts. The good news is, if the police call me in regards to my stolen mustang in the next couple of days I won't be able to talk to them about.

Anyone got a backup Cingular phone I can borrow?

Dean 2007-08-27 04:04 PM

What kind of phone is the old one? Brand/Model? I assume you tried pulling the battery for a while and replacing it, to power up with just the AC cord plugged in.

It is remotely possible it might work in data connection mode even if it doesn't as a phone.

NevadaSTi 2007-08-27 04:16 PM

It has been giving me errors for the last week and a half. One of them that I actually managed to see was, "Internal Error *****"

The phone is an LG CU500.

Dean, we have tried everything, I just tried plugging in my data cable to it and nothing happened.

Battery has a full charge. What happened with it was I had just sent a TM to a friend. I was then going to send her a picture because I had forgot to attach it to the original TM. The phone was acting very slow and took a while to get into the picture folder. When it did access the pictures it showed all the pictures as the same picture, the pic of the broken glass from my stolen car thread. I thought that was weird so I backed out of the folder and tried accessing it again. It was taking its time accessing the folder when the screen went black. I thought that perhaps I had my thumb on the on/off button and had accidently turned it off. So, I tried to turn it back on. Nothing.

If there is nothing to lose, I'd be happy to take it apart and put it back together to see if that helps.

He might lose his warranty replacement if you do that.

I have an old cingular phone and charger you can borrow. If I can figure out how to back up all my numbers off my current phone, you can just have it. It's only current purpose is a backup for all my phone numbers.

I like exporting to Outlook since most phones can import/export to/from Outlook. I've got a lot of numbers, email addresses, etc.

Kevin M 2007-08-27 07:14 PM

Verizon has a thing now where it backs up all your contact info to their website. Maybe Cingular has caught on?

cody 2007-08-27 07:49 PM

I actually have Verizon now, but don't plan to stick with them when my contract is up...

MattR 2007-08-27 08:59 PM

I just enabled my At&t whip to work in Europe for my upcoming voyage...sweet

Why is that? I've been happy with my service up here.

just get a go phone at wal mart and put your sim card into it untill you get a new phone. that is what i did.

NevadaSTi 2007-08-28 07:08 AM

Well, from what I understand, to allow el senor cheap bastard to mess with my phone would be rather expensive. So Dean, if you want to take it apart, please provide me with a money order for $210.00.

Moose, I would get a cheapo phone at Wally-world, but I am broke / cheap at the moment. Plus, my new phone will be here this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

You know how you feel when you forget your phone at home? Kind of like you are naked.

Do you know how you feel when someone steals something from you? Kind of like you were violated.

Well, yesterday I felt like I was naked, lost and violated.

It's not bad but I go to the bay area all the time and Cingular has better coverage there, in my experience. My GF has Cingular and she often has a signal when I don't. Also, it seems Cingular has better deals. We'll see what's available when my contract is up in a year.

Also, it irked me when they uppded the text msg charge 1 month after I signed up. Yes, only 5 cents, but the principal of the matter...

Brian, I brought my beat up looking Cingular phone, car charger, and AC charger to work today. Like I said, you can borrow/probably have it if you want.

That's a good enough reason right there if she is the primary person you talk/text with on your phone.

cody 2007-08-28 08:43 AM

Good point.

NevadaSTi 2007-08-28 09:14 AM

Cody, thanks for the offer. Hopefully mine will get here today. If not, I think I can live without it for a day or two.

cody 2007-08-28 11:01 AM

Cool.

NevadaSTi 2007-08-28 11:09 AM

I just got my new phone. I put the sim card and the scan disk in the new phone and turned it on. It fires up, gains access to the network and starts downloading text messages and voice mails. I check my phone numbers, they are there and working fine. Then out of curiosity, I check the pictures. The good news is, I had been saving the pictures to my scandisk. The bad news, one of files is corrupted, and crashed my new phone. YEAHH!!!!

I called ATT, and they decided my new phone is, DOA. They are sending me another, it should be here by noon tomorrow. WOHOOOO!!!!!

Scan disk, is in the trash now.

sperry 2007-08-28 11:49 AM

WTF is a "scan disk"?

NevadaSTi 2007-08-28 12:21 PM

Oh my bad, it says SanDisk. A little micro-memory chip.

cody 2007-08-28 01:04 PM

Don't throw it away Loco. It can be reformatted if the only issue is a corrupt file.

tysonK 2007-08-28 01:14 PM

square root check symbol FTW!

I am not going to throw it away. I have an adapter for it someplace at home so that it can plug into a jumpdrive / usb drive thingy. You know, the damn thing you plug digital camera memory sticks into. Once I find that, then I plan on taking all the pictures off of the MicroSD and reformat the thing. I'll then figure out in my computer which file is corrupted.

Either way, this SD is not going back into my new phone that comes tomorrow unless I am absolutely sure the thing isn't going to kill yet another phone.
