American Gladiators

SO, apparently EVERY good idea for a new TV show in the entire world has been used up, and NBC is left with nothing but the practice of reviving shows from the 1980's.

"It was good twenty years ago, so why not bring it back!!??"

Bionic Whore, not so much. But I think this show might actually be... good.

There hasn't been an original idea since Futurama.

Very true, I wasn't hittin' on the stolen movies, but if you go there, the list will trail on forEVER!

There are plenty of ideas left in video games. . . but the catch is that they have to release lots of mainstream crap to be able to fund the odd original IP that only the intelligent minority of gamers will purchase.

Katamari Damacy was very original. Assassin's Creed also comes to mind as a more recent game that was based on an original premise. At least, I'd never seen anything else like it. Also stuff like Half-Life, Animal Crossing, Shadow of the Colossus, and Eternal Darkness.

As far as recent movies go, I was very impressed by both The Prestige and Babel.

I never watch TV, though - just dvds. But I do buy the Simpsons dvds as they release.

Yes, The Prestige was a DAMN good movie!

There's just so much crap these days. I can agree with you on mainly sticking to movies. I watch the same old crap on TV most of the time (re-runs of Simpsons, Family Guy, M.A.S.H. [don't fucking make fun of me for liking MASH!!!]) but generally a good movie will take up most of my viewing time, which also seems hard to find anymore...

Had a co-worker go on Gladiators in the early 90's and she made some good money. They need to put a twist on it. Half Gladiator and half cage match in an old warehouse building with some blood.

wasn't there another show a while back named battle dome? that was almost identical to gladiator but it was more... hardcore?

My wife didn't care for it at all, mostly because of the ending. That's really ironic. . . she always liked korean dramas, in which something terrible and tear-jerking usually happens to the protagonist by the end - usually death or loss of significant other. I figured The Prestige would be just right, but I guess the lack of a clear protagonist/antagonist threw her off.

I cannot wait. This is going to be the best thing ever.

who didn't like watching people get smashed by steroided out freaks?

also, some of the promo clips show some pretty crazy stuff from the participants, so this should be really good.

Premier is tomorrow night. Wonder if they would put it up on the big screen at Tamarack??? Could be fun.

This post is Klinger-Approved.

Well... it sucked.

They took all the cheese of the 1980's and didn't change a thing. It still feels like I'm watching a stunt show put on for mid-westerners that are visiting the Universal Studios theme park.

They really could have put together a cool show w/ less spandex and spotlights that would have been a neat US version of Sasuke (Ninja Warrior). Instead, it's Hulk Hogan's dumb-ass interviewing a bunch of wannabe stunt-men that can't get a real job before and after they go up against the roided-out reject list for some body-builder reality TV show.
