Dakar not to end in Dakar next year
I can't remember if someone posted the news earlier here or not, but this year on the eve of its 29th running, the Dakar rally was canceled due to direct terrorist threats. The year prior, they had to cancel all the stages in Mauritania for the same reason. Its a sad state of affairs, but the classic Dakar had to move in order to survive.
Next year it'll go through Argentina and Chile, starting and ending in Buenos Aires. Not much more is known, except that it should be exciting to see the Dakar cars competing in the new terrain. http://www.f1technical.net/news/8239 |
It's one thing to move the rally. It's another thing to move the rally to another continent! :?:

Good thing there aren't any terrorists or banditos who can get to South America.
Oh wai |
They should run it in Winnemucca.

Vegas to Reno maybe? Just run laps till you get to 2500 km

But then it wouldn't be right in our backyard. Duh.

A great rally would be running from Sao Paulo to San Diego. Unfortunately there are way too many little countries to race through on the way making it likely a political impossibility.
