Noob to NV auto registration

So, I have to renew my reg on the WRX. This is my first time with this here in NV and my charges are confusing.

Does this sound correct to anyone?

Reg fee: $33
Basic gov sales tax: $257
Smog required.

Now, this is my first new car, the MRP is listed at ~$25K. Bought it in Sac, CA.
I bought it 1 year ago exactly, do I need a smog already? Seems weird.
Am I going to have to pay the tax every year? Perhaps its because it was purchased in Ca?

That's not "sales tax" on the sale, that's the normal tax they charge above and beyond the fixed $33 registration fee. I think it's called "sales tax" because it's a tax based on the original sales price, not because it's actually sales tax. That number will go down over time. For example, my SVX is listed with a $34,000 MSRP, but I pay like $11 for that second number 'cause the car is 14 years old now.

Smog is required every year on all cars, except I think hybrids (starting this year) which are every other year.

Interesting Fact. I've never renewed my registration on a vehicle. Ever!

His car is an 06. Smog is waved for 2 years on all new cars. So year 06 and 07. This year he will have to smog. I have 2 05' vehicles and did not have to smog either until 07.

But it's every year thereafter, no? But with hybrids, I thought they changed them to every two years for the life of the vehicle.

I go to the gas station on the corner of Kietzke and Moana(shell?). They are $19.95 IIRC and have always been nice and fast.

Yeah, I didn't mean to quote on the hybrid thing.

After the second full year of reg on a new car (assuming no non-exempt ownership transfers) you have to smog every year. So day 1 of year 3 requires a smog.

Or you could just live in Carson. :P

Yup, Carson City doesn't require getting a smog.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-02-28 11:04 PM

Yeah but then you have to live in Carson City. We all know what kind of people come out of Carson City.

I don't see the point in running, cavemen didn't invent the wheel so people could run for fun.

You should let him use your address. :P

tysonK 2008-03-01 09:00 PM

^I didn't change my address when I went to winnemucca to register.

I just wrote a different mailing address down and they didn't give it a second look.

But I did walk in there liked I owned the place so that helped also.
