ESX STi WCGT Passenger-Cam

Hey everyone,

Haven't dropped by in awhile. Figured I'd say hello.

Well, if you haven't heard, we're going to Long Beach again with the STi. The weird thing is, we've actually been out testing the car already. Twice! Considering the last two years we were building the car right up before race weekend, this is an amazing luxury. And we're getting ready to go testing again this weekend. :)

Anyway, many of you may have already seen this video, but if not, here it is. I had a passenger in the race car at California Speedway during the Aston Martin track day that ESX threw a couple of weeks ago. He had a P&S camera that he brought in the car and took video of the two laps we did.

Note that the car is detuned and I was having braking issues from pad knockback (turned out to be a bad rear bearing). But the car sounds great and is quick even though we're not running at our target boost during these runs...

So, anyone coming out to Long Beach this year?

Actually, I'd really like to see which car is faster, ESX's World Challenge car, or GST's Time Attack L. I've gotta think that the L would have the advantage of less weight and less rules guiding the build of the car, but that ESX car has some serious rubber under it to counter the weight...

Gary, you've been around both more than any of us... who's got the faster car?

Man, that L would kick the ESX car's ass. Less weight, much better aero, more tire (I think the narrower BFG R1's are stickier than our wider Toyo RA-1/RA-888's) and similar power. The ESX car sounds better, though :)

That's one thing that's going to bum us out at the Long Beach race. The Time Attack session will be full of faster cars!

I forgot the GT cars ran on RA1's! But what size are the wheels/tires on the ESX car? I remember hearing the car was tubbed for like 10" wide wheels.

We run 305 wide tires on the GT car. The L runs 275 R-1s.

It's pretty cool because both the GT car and the L are being prepped at GST, so they are side by side a lot of the time :)

Hey, get Mike to bring them both up to Reno-Fernley some day for some high altitude testing... it's a lot cheaper than hauling out to Miller! ;)

In fact, come run one of our SCCA Time Trials events: http://www.renoscca.org/index.php?page=race_schedule

That's not a bad idea if we raise the funding to get to Miller! We'll need to do some high altitude tuning and testing.
