coolant?

I need to add some coolant to the reservoir, but I don't have time to go all the way to Michael Hohl's for OEM.

I've browsed stuff, more stuff, and even more stuff in the past, and though I have an idea of what I need, I'm still not really comfortable finding an appropriate replacement for OEM.

Can anyone suggest a brand that they've used and been pleased with?

It is summer. If all you need is some for the reservoir, just use distilled water.

I have not read the links, but if you need anti-freeze, today, almost anything is aluminum compatible, just make sure it says so. I can't imagine it needing something special. If it does, then Subaru has to provide it for free... :)

I picked up some Peak 50/50 universal. It also turns out that every time I looked at the reservoir, the engine wasn't completely cool, and I didn't really need to add some quite as badly as I thought. :P

Fixed for coded message.

No, but I realized what was going on only after I had spent $11 on coolant and a 15 minute trip to Kragen. That certainly would have been exciting, though.

Yep, I just added some distilled water to mine the other day. Water's some good stuff. Plus, I've been scared into only using OEM coolant and never allowing anyone to use a flushing machine that could contaminate your fluid. I use OEM coolant and the OEM stopleak crap and 50% distilled water.

I'm sold on the OEM too. And why not add the conditioner, it will only help. I did notice a bunch of Peak boxes in the parts dept. at Lithia, maybe that's what they use for normal service?? I don't know.

They were probably from the cases of wiper fluid they get from Napa quite often. I'm pretty sure they use OEM coolant in the shop there.

So this one time, I was driving around... And then I parked... and then I guess a clamp came off a hose and sprayed coolant all over my engine... I replaced the hose and coolant and continued to drive...

You should have replaced the clamp instead of the hose.
