Starting to look for a place to live.

So I graduate tomorrow and then leave for my senior trip. After that, come back for a couple weeks then I am looking to move out.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am looking for either a 4 bedroom house or a 3 bedroom apartment. I would love a house but i feel like it would be way expensive with rent, and utilities even divided 4 ways.

Anyone know of nice, affordable apartment complexes or houses for college kids?

Ahh! Im not gonna lie its kinda scary but exciting at the same time.

How many people are you moving out with? Any Pets?

There's a house for rent right next door to me. Its 1250 a month. i think its a 3 bedroom.

3 people no pets

Looking hopefully kinda up north near school and what not.

We are looking for rent to about 300 each give or take some.

My girlfriend's sister is a property manager for UNR. I'll get her your phone number.

I take it you're going to UNR then?

I would recommend against charging up a storm on credit cards during your college years. School of hard knocks. :P When you graduate from college you will have other shit to buy, so debt reduction never goes as fast as you think.

I am not actually going to UNR. I am going through EMT school at REMSA and The Fire Academy at TMCC.

I think it might be kind of difficult to find a three bedroom apartment for 900. At least a good three bedroom apartment. The last two bedroom I was in went for 900, and my current one bedroom, in a shitty neighborhood, is 700. Needless to say I think a house is out of the question, once factor in utilities of course.

I'm assuming that the three of you don't have much, or any credit, and no previous rental history, this is also going to make it difficult for you. The best advice I can give you is to search Craig's List. Try and find someone with a condo for rent, rather than going to a larger corporately owned apartment complex who would be more likely to turn you down.

If you guys are more mature and can keep a house clean you can fib and say that you're grad students at UNR or something. ;)

wrxkidid 2008-06-17 02:34 PM

We are the more mature type of people and are all pretty cleanly in our habits. We do party I wont lie but we arent going to be keeping anyone up all night either.

I have looked around. Silver Creek out on Sharlands advertises as a great place for college students and their rent is decent, they do a pre approval credit check though and seeing as none of us have credit or rental history that kind of blows.

It sucks, I went threw the same shit when I first moved out.

I have bank credit but no credit score. I have a checking account and have had one since I was a little kid, never overdrafted or bounced a check kept all my account minimums so I am set with banks and what not but im guessing that doesnt help me with renting a house

Can you get mom and dad to co-sign for the 1st year?

khail19 2008-06-17 07:15 PM

The tenant in my condo is moving out in a few weeks, but it's only a 2 bedroom. $900 a month, Donner Springs area if you are interested.

wrxkidid 2008-06-18 03:56 PM

I didnt even think of a cosigner. I dunno if they would just because its not only me living there you know...

Where is Donner Springs Khail?

MPREZIV 2008-06-18 04:10 PM

Well, your parents would have to be willing to trust your roommates... but you can do it. My 1st place in college I got my parents as co-signers, and so did my roommates.

After a year or two, you won't need them to co-sign.

wrxkidid 2008-06-18 11:38 PM

Hmm Khail I might have to talk to my friend and see if that would work. Are you the land lord? Im sending you a pm.
