Buying an iPod or Zune MP3, Help!

I'm going to purchase a MP3 player this week. Never owned one, but have been told that the Zune is a great buy with more features. I will mainly be using it to download music and play back through my home stereo system. Itunes sells downloads for $.99, Zune has unlimited downloads for $14.99 a month. Need some advice from folks that have experiance with these things. Thanks for your help.

iPod is probably easiest and has the most accessories...

You don't need to buy music you already own. Converting your existing CDs is relatively easy.

I just happen to be in the iPod business... I can get you a deal. ;)

I use my phone but only having 1GB of storage gets annoying. I don't understand why people buy ipods and Zune's when there's plenty of less expensive options by Creative and the like. Get one with lots of storage and keep your music backed up on your computer as hardware breaks and players get lost/stolen.

Also keep in mind that the Zune services is a subscription based service. If you stop paying your $14.99 a month, the songs become worthless bits in a bitstream.

You got a job at Apple?

Thank You! That's a pretty good piece of info, I foolishly thought "Cool, I'll subscribe for like 2 months and download 2500 songs and then cancel"

I like the Zune hardware and marketplace, but don't care much for the PC software required to sync. It's a small nit-pick, though. I'm glad I got my Zune.

Also, you are not required to subscribe to a Zune pass. You can purchase individual songs and albums at about the same rate as on itunes.

 I had a zune given to me (gift) and think it is the worst designed product I have ever had. At first it wouldn't charge correctly and then whenever I plugged it into the computer it would just keep turning on and off non-stop. Somehow it finally kept a charge and when I tried to figure out how to transfer stuff on to it I couldn't. The oem software is the most confusing software I have ever used. I am pretty good with electronics (build my own computers, install my own car stereos, semi-proficient in photoshop/indesign and the like) and I was so frusterated with the zune I haven't even used it. I'm so angry at it I might need somebody to walk me through it so I don't have a 30g paperweight on my desk.
