Snow Donkeys (2008-2009)

Saturday morning was terrible. Tomorrow may be worse...

California from Mayberry to Keystone was an ice rink with 1 SUV flipped on it's side on the inside of a corner on the uphill side where Mayberry joins California??? Too many cops to slow down and take a picture.

And the uphill between Booth and Keystone had people piled up who could not go uphill on ice... No chains, no snow tires, no brains; Idiots! People finally started backing down the hill and I almost had a path through/past the one person in front of me, and this idiot in a Mercedes pulls up behind her and starts honking after 2 light cycles instead of noticing all the backup lights and people sliding down the hill in the other direction. It took me 25 minutes to get from my house to I-80...

I am bummed. My car waits all year for this type of weather and I can't even drive it. Someone better take some video of some snow drifting in their car. I would have. Ask yourself What Wwould Juice Do?

here is my vid from last year for some inspiration.

Some asshead in a CRV pulled out in front me of today on Virginia. Then proceded to drive TWELVE MILES AN HOUR. I was tempted to force them to have a snow donkey encounter. Instead I just shake my fist.

With my crappy Kumho all-seasons it was major Too Slow Too Furious - Reno Drift this morning.

Nick Koan 2008-12-15 09:36 AM

I was supposed to go to the Bay this weekend, but decided against it after seeing the predictions. Glad I stayed it.

My girlfriend had her first taste of driving in snow today... that was fun, but at least she made it. Thanks for the chains Dean/Debbie! :D

You should have thrown a shoe at him!

I'd rather drive in 2 feet of snow in Truckee than 1 inch in Reno.....so far I give my Revo1's a B/B+.

Actually I agree. Because snow is easier to drive on than ice, which is what 1 inch of snow in Reno turns into after the first car drives over it.

JonnydaJibba 2008-12-15 10:21 AM

I'm jealous.

Reno does not have a handle on their snow dealings.

Edit: It is pounding HARD up here right now.

Every year I come really close to puling the trigger on a set of those, but go with the Dunlops instead since I don't live in the Northwest anymore.

I drove over 50 from Sac on Saturday afternoon - ridiculous as usual. I took Luther Pass through Hope Valley and 88 to get back to Carson simply due to the sheer idiocy on the highway starting at Kyburz.

We had to wait for about 15min to allow accident clearing, during which time some lady asks me "do I put chains on the front or the back?" My reply, "put them on the drive wheels" got a blank look, so she went to go ask the CalTrans flagger, who said "I don't know, what kind of car do you have?" HAHAHAHA.

Then, a circa 89 VW hatch took the front of the line at Strawberry, slapped on the hazards, and proceeded to drive at 15-20mph the ENTIRE way to Tahoe. As I was 10 cars back, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it (without a high-powered rifle). Cruising over Luther at 40-50 through the powder was refreshing.

Why do these people insist on driving AFTER several days of weather warnings?

Trip to work was pretty easy for me today. Not many cars going north on 395 past golden valley @ 6:25am..

I heard Saturday Morning was killer!

:unamused:

sperry 2008-12-15 11:29 AM

It took me like 25 minutes to get to work today... no real drama, but damn if the roads weren't sheet ice the whole way. :unamused:

I am loving my WS-60's, just amazing in everything so far. Came down 267 yesterday and had no problem even at the summit coming down towards Northstar where it's usually a little hairy. I really have to work to get these tires to break loose or to engage the ABS :D

Driving around this morning was no problem either, even on the obvious icy spots but it helps that I was going slow also :)

+1 on the WS-60's. I am finally getting to try them out and they seem really good!

I wonder why WCSD not issue a snow delay start this morning. Turbo just make it to school with 1 minute left.

Kevin M 2008-12-15 02:15 PM

My girlfriend was a little bummed about not getting to sleep in. I imagine they will not scrwe it up next time with all the lates and absences today.

The Wintersort 3D's still work well despite being a bit ripped up from the Street Survival School (I played after the kids were done) and the RFR Track n' Tour.

I was amazed that it only took me 35 minutes to get from Red Rock Blvd@395 to downtown today. 395 was a parking lot so I took Virginia from Stead Blvd the whole way and to my amazment, just cruised at like 10 under the whole way. I was even courteous and let people in front of me when ever it was rational to do so.

Dean 2008-12-15 03:33 PM

Some stupid kid just spun in front of me in his mom's Volvo in my neighborhood. What an asshat...

Hankook W300s are still great in snow and handle pretty well dry as well.

MPREZIV 2008-12-15 03:37 PM

Nissan + Snow Donkey = $$Ca-ching!!$$ For Cory!!!

waiting...

doubleurx 2008-12-15 08:13 PM

My REVO 1's kicked butt today. Plowed through 18" of untracked snow on my street this morning bringing the kids to school - why it wasn't a snow day for them I have no idea.

sperry 2008-12-15 10:35 PM

The SVX's Wintersport M3's are pretty much done... I think the siping is toast, or maybe the rubber is just too old... this is like the 3rd winter for 'em (and one summer for that matter, oops!).

But the biggest issue is that with all the ice out there, I've swung back to thinking the AWD on that car is stuck at 90/10 and won't send power to the rear. It's just too damn easy to spin the front wheels. So before I'm stuck somewhere, or worse, snowdonkey'd, I dropped it off at Indy Auto to have them run all the Subaru diag tools on it to see what's going on with it. Ken over there seemed on the ball and not at all phased to have to deal with a '96 Leggy slushbox in a '94 SVX, so hopefully his guys will jump right on it and sort things out.

JonnydaJibba 2008-12-16 08:13 AM

I drove to South Lake last night to play some hockey. That was fun. I'm jealous of all the snow they get to play/ski/drive in.
