New Subaru Oil Filter - Very Small

Guys,

Have any of you purchased a Suburu OEM WRX oil filter lately? The tech said they downsized it to prevent the oil from cooking next to the exaust cross pipe. The new filter is tiny.

A thimble sized oil filter seems a bit small. Maybe it's time to hook up a monster remote filter.

Scott, did you ever find your write up on the sandwich adapter oil pressure guage mod?

Interesting... I'm a little confused tho... I guarentee the oil gets WAY hotter flowing over the turbo than it does going thru a filter that's near the exhaust. Any chance it's smaller to protect the filter itself from the heat?

You can download the writeup I did here: Perma-Cool Mod (153k zip)

It's a zip with the html and images included.

That mod allows you to convert a Perma-Cool remote oil cooler adapter into a galley for temp and pressure sensors. If you're looking to run a remote filter, it uses a different adapter, and you'll be able to put the sensors inline with the remote filter's lines.

If Subaru believes having the filter so close to the exhaust is a problem, maybe it's time for me to look into a remote filter too... 'course if I'm going to do that, I might as well install an oil cooler too... hehe.

remote filter adapter -> sensor galley -> cooler w/ thermostat bypass -> remote filter -> return to filter adapter

I wonder how much more oil I'll need to add to the system to fill all that!
