Wanted: Semi-recent PCI Video card (2003/4ish)

I got rid of all my ancient PCI Video cards some time ago. They were all way to slow anyway.

Looking for something from like a P4 generation 2003/4ish or newer system. it will likely have a minimum of 64Mb of Ram.

Something like a GeForce 5000 or 6000 series or Radeon ES1000, 8000-9000 series.

I have a couple similar or better AGP or PCIE cards for trade if you need one.

ScottyS 2009-03-03 02:15 PM

I have PCI-E but no regular 33mhz PCI cards.

Nope, needs to be a classic PCI card... I have spare PCI-E as well.

Nick Koan 2009-03-03 03:48 PM

I was all AGP by that time. I might have a PCI card circa 1998 laying around.

I know, so was I. No Thanks.

Should be able to find something for $15-20 on ebay, that's what I've done when setting up multi-monitor setups in the past.

Dean 2009-03-03 04:37 PM

Really, on ebay, they sell stuff?

Dey do, for realz.

Dean 2009-03-03 06:37 PM

Forget it. Apparently a PCI card will not resolve my issue. It will still suck, only via PCI vs. sucking via embedded AGP. :(

word, son. dey be havin' all KINDS of that shiz in the intrawebs.

And yeah, it's a stupid suggestion, but no less sensible than "does anyone have a particular card made between this year and this year with this particular spec" and being choosy about it. When I need something specific, I search for it instead of asking for it to come to me.

But I'm weird.

I want an adult size Lightning McQueen race car bed. Anybody have one lying around?

I hear you, but also know there are a bunch of tech pack rats in our group, and I am a cheap bastard! :) No harm, no foul.

Oh, you were circumventing embedded AGP. Yah, PCI 32-bit is not good for graphics at any modern level. I figured it was a triple-monitor mod, which was the last thing I used a PCI card for.

No, it was a bit more sinister or diabolical maybe than that. For the OS I am working with, there is no decent driver support for the Intel on-board or any PCI based card, so I am stuck with the default limited functionality SVGA driver either way. :( At least it is working.

Yes. Wait, what...? Oh, no.

Care to name this supportless OS?

Dewey 2009-03-05 11:15 AM

I have a 6600gt with either 256 or 128..

Dean 2009-03-05 12:19 PM

That is a new enough card, but as far as I can tell, there is no PCI version of the 6600. only AGP and PCI-E.

Are you sure it is PCI?

Lack of an AGP or PCI-E slot is really the problem with this system. :(

There are optimized drivers for the AGP and PCI-E cards, but no joy on the PCI cards or the on-board Intel AGP :(

A1337STI 2009-03-05 01:34 PM

Hey what are you trying to run anyways?

I have an old PCI card somewhere, maybe a few if i didn't huck them already. they are mostly garbage though, i have a Diamond 550 , or 770 PCI card somewhere.... it was a great card in ... 98 ....

Dean 2009-03-05 02:08 PM

Don't need vintage stuff, that is for sure.

Lets just say it is a GUI *NIX variant that normally runs on semi-proprietary hardware named after a fruit. ;)

cody 2009-03-05 02:18 PM

Oh, a passionfruit box. Nice.

Alright, I think most of these are AGP but at least two are PCI. All are probably older than you'd like, but let me know if you want one. I have some old P3 machines that may have something too but again, probably too old. Yes the camera is probably as old as the cards. :|

Dean 2009-03-05 03:06 PM

No thanks Cody.

ScottyS 2009-03-05 03:13 PM

Measure those PCI cards with your drafting triangle to make sure!!!!
