AIMS machine? / OBX Racing?
Howdy,
Has anyone here used AIMS machine shop in sparks? I'm looking to get the cylinders honed in an extra 1.8L block i have, new rings, and get some head work on it. (motor seems way down on power, will compression or leak down test it to confirm) think the quote was around 540 ish for bore out to next factory size, new pistons with rings, valve guide / some other valve thingy (grind?) , head grind. and something else i wrote down but don't recall. i didn't ask if that includes re-assembly of the new pistons / rings. Sounds about right? good place to have motor work done at? Anyone here ever hear about OBX Racing? they make LSDs (helical) and i'm thinking of buying one for my rally car. Good quality? Junk? anyone hear of them or of someone using their diffs? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-L...RCHQ3aUSQ3a101 Says for the WRX, but I'm fairly sure it will fit a FWD Imp. I know the half shafts interchange (or i have to use 94 FWD half shafts, but that's class legal for me) I haven't split my spare fwd case next to ansel's spare 5speed WRX case yet to confirm that the front diffs are in deed the same dimensions but i can't imagine them not being. |
Do a search for "aims", there are a few review threads already, here's the "official" one:
http://www.seccs.org/forums/showthre...highlight=aims I've used them for my motor build in the past... but I f'd that up by reusing a dirty oil cooler and spun a bearing again. But overall I was pretty happy w/ the work they did vs. the cost. I just don't have any longevity info about the work they do because my motor never survived the break-in due to dirty oil. |
I don't think those diffs will work in a FWD gearbox. You could try converting an AWD box to FWD by welding hte center diff, same as RWD conversion, but I doubt that's class legal. If you do find a way to make it work, I have heard those LSDs work just fine, and do what they're supposed to. There's also someone on RS25 selling an OEM V2 (I think) clutch-style front diff fairl cheap.
