High Octane Fuel Requirement
I have not heard that the WRX requires high octane fuel but am guessing that this may be the case.
Is it recommended/required? How about running synthetic vs. dinosaur oil? Thanks |
i highly recomend high octane fuel on any turbo engine. for the extra 6 cents a gallon, youll be saving your engine alot of wear and tear.

Well, First of let me say Welcome (A little late but better than never.. lol )
I Think that in order for a Turbo-Charged vehicles to run smooth and with out any Detonation (Especially with our crappy 91 Octane) You would want to have super unleaded .. because they run hotter faster and well with that in mind comes the Full Synthetic oils which to me run cooler and tend NOT to break down so easily.. But then I am not an expert on cars .. so I leave this question up to the Pros on this forum .. lol ... |
You can get away with lower octane (unless you're running extra boost or an ECU map or something) but the car will have to pull timing to keep from knocking under heavy loads/boost. It's just a good idea to run the best gas you can find. I tend to stick to Chevron and Shell because I've had good experience with 'em.
