Lithia Bend Over
Like an idiot I walked into Lithia's parts department w/o talking with the forum folks first. I felt that the door sensor switch that I broke last week by closing my door on the seat belt (which hadn't fully retracted) was going to be like $15-$20. After all, it's basically about 2 grams of plastic with a spring loaded plastic plunger switch. Amazingly they had the switch in stock for my 05 Legacy LGT! Without asking I handed them my credit card and was stunned when they rang up $50.92!!!!!
Next time I'll spend some time on the forum or call pick & pull or another recycling yard before I drop my drawers for the parts department. The good: it was a 15 minute job to replace it and I'll get credit for stimulating the economy! |
Why didn't you just return the part when you saw how much it was?
|
That might be a hard part to find at a yard. I was at airport auto wreckers a couple weeks ago and they didn't have any new leggies.
|
I was determined to get this fixed and I only come to Reno once a week if at all. You're likely correct that newer Legacys are not readily available to canilbalize.
|
I would call the dismantlers in Rancho Cordova for that sort of thing.
Could have stolen the passenger side one for a couple days. :) |
Airport Auto Wreckers are the only guys in town who get Subies too.

Oh really?! Those bastards prob just told me that so I would go there... fuckers.

IMO the guy at airport auto is a clown. Just out of curiosity I asked him "hey, how much for this wingless bugeye trunk?" *Oh that's pretty nice, $350*

Lithia doesn't set the retail prices on replacement parts. Subaru does. Thread title should be "Subaru Bend Over"... I guess...
|
D&D does have fantastic service, but I have yet to see a bugeye or newer Impreza there. Leggies and Foresters don't get much newer either. They just don't feel like they can afford newer vehicles. Works okay for me though, since I have yet to own a Subaru newer than 2001.

Maybe for you, those guys wasted my time. |
I get bent over frequently at Lithia, I always need a few small parts and don't want to risk not getting the correct ones off of a wholesale site. I go in there so much they do work with me on the price a little.
I have had good luck with Airport, as for D&D, I would buy new before I go there. Both times I went there to buy bits for my honda I found that I could have bought them brand new on a wholesale site for the same price AFTER SHIPPING!! "D"irty "D"ouchebags Rancho has been great for both Subaru and Honda parts :) |
D&D's software puts up high prices, but if you ask for a discount you pretty much get it. Especially lately.
|
I buy $1000's of small parts and gaskets from Jamie at subarugenuineparts.com . Their prices are pretty hard to beat unless you get dealer pricing. She is pretty helpful and answers questions accurately and quickly (within a day). If it is in stock it will be here in 2-3 days. My only beef is the arbitrary 10% shipping charge with a $7 minimum, but usually I buy a few $100's at a time so it doesn't hurt me much.
