OLD Article about the local Subaru Group

Don't ask how I stumbled onto this article in the old Reno SCCA newsletter...But check out page 5, the story called " Having it an a WRX". That was around the time this club was formed, back when I was one of the young guys... Good stuff. I'll never forget that day at RFR with Gary and his huge wreck. Wow.

WRX Old days

I didn't know Debbie had a WRX, shows how long I've been around.

k-dogg39 2009-05-17 06:25 PM

That is a cool article.

ScottyS 2009-05-17 06:47 PM

Awesome Matt! That's Scott's, your's, and Tyson's cars in that photo, right? I like the part about you guys going on a Norcal group drive.

MattR 2009-05-17 07:25 PM

Yeah, the Blue WRX is Scott, the White wagon was mine and that was Tyson's black one. We helped Gary load up the missing body parts into his trailer that day after a terrible wreck with a Honda Civic.

Where's the article about us winning a free WRX from SCCA for a year, but not accepting it because of their retarded insurance rules? :unamused:

Haha, I don't know, some time later into 03-04?. Also, it mentioned the seccs car show at the Atlantis we put together for SOA...That was quite an effort.

Ditto!

Oh, mine too!

Funny thing, at the time an Audi and Stealth owner, Dean talked me into looking at the WRX as a sporty car that I could upgrade to from a Dodge minivan. Forget the modding, in its stock form it could compete in rallies, autox, track events, and be an awesome daily driver too - what was not to like?

Good find, Matt. This article was one of a series that we submitted to SCCA, that ended up netting our region the 'free' WRX for a year. Scott was right, though - it was too bad we couldn't comply with the retarded insurance requirements to actually take possession.
