Les Schwab Tires --Stay away from them!!

This review is from my recent experience at the one on Oddie Blvd within the past month and a half.
I've had 2 horrible issues with this place, I thought I'd give them a chance to redeem themselves from the first.

I had my alignment done there, and specifically told them I wanted my steering wheel straight, he said no problem. I get it back and it is far from straight while driving in a straight line, on a level road. So I take it back in and he re-aligns it, no charge, and says one side was 1 deg off. I then take it and on my way to work I notice the wheel is still not straight. Very annoying!!

I had a nail in a tire I needed fixed, they are just up the road and friends have always said they take care of your wheels. I took my nearly new BBS wheel into them and they TRASHED the whole edge of the wheel, around the complete circumference. They claimed there was a rock in their machine that did it. The manager sends the wheel out to Sierra Wheel to get fixed. The wheel shows up and looks like it had been painted with a rattle can. Obviously I'm past pissed off at this point. He then tries for nearly 2 weeks to find a used wheel which he can't. They end up ordering a new wheel from Subaru for $900, and they refuse to mount my tire on it. He then tells me I'm not welcome at his shop any more. I was totally respectful every time I went in and while talking with him on the phone. I never lost my temper although I was close.

I found that very offensive that he had an attitude with me when his shop was what caused the whole issue. I give them credit for replacing the wheel, but show a little decency toward your customers. They even still charged me for the flat repair.

IF YOU VALUE YOUR WHEELS STAY AWAY FROM THESE KNUCKLEHEADS!!

Les Schwab has been known as a terrible place to go to for a while now... lots of stories similar to yours.

But hey, at least you got a free full-size spare out of it, right?

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-05 11:50 AM

Hey this reminds me of another thread about les schwab. Oh yeah, it was mine.

Mine dragged out for a lot longer than I would have liked but I guess I got a new wheel from them eventually and the kid who jacked it up *the second time* doesn't work there anymore. My wheel only cost $290 and they make a claim to their insurance anyways so I don't see why they cop an attitude. At least when they screwed up your wheel they admitted that the machine did it.

No luck on the spare, the manager was being a total a$$, I didn't even ask.

Sorry for starting another thread, didn't view any older threads and didn't see one in the current menu.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-05 12:31 PM

Oh I didn't mean to say you shouldn't have started this thread. I was just reminded of how mad I was when they did that to me. No spare for me either, they kept my messed up wheel.

I have had good luck with Mill Street Tire on guess-what-street and Telegraph. Their prices are fine, they have been on time, and they are very okay with TireRack.com shipping to them directly (as they are also a TireRack-approved installer).

And yeah, I know the tirerack warehouse is nearby, but the shipping is pretty cheap and is worth it to avoid the time and hassle to me.

I go to MR HubCap because their install prices are so cheap. 4 new 17's ? $40 mounted and balanced. just tell them I sent you. :)

course they might mess up a rim too. but so far i've only had good deals with them, and no rim damage.

WRXlerate 2009-06-09 06:50 PM

From now on, I'm not even going to check on price. I just want someone that won't ruin my wheels. I'll pay $25/wheel for m&b, I just want it done right!

wrxkidid 2009-06-09 07:46 PM

too bad i couldn't talk my dad into buying a mounting machine and balancer for our garage...i got pretty good at it when I worked in the shop.

I hear nissan is good at it...

IIRC, that's the retail rate at Nissan.

MPREZIV 2009-06-10 06:54 AM

$59.95 MB4 now!!! :D

Kevin M 2009-06-10 09:41 AM

Sweet!

WRXlerate 2009-06-10 11:26 AM

So, Nissan won't screw up my wheels? Do they fix flats too, or they strictly just m&b?

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-10 12:21 PM

Nissan will treat you like a king and your car will always leave in better condition than when it arrived.

The only thing they won't do is poop in your van. I hear they're not in the business of doing that.

I can guarantee that I won't screw up your wheels, but I can't speak for anybody else! :D I work at Nissan. If you come in and ask for Cory, you'll be well taken care of! And I do any service or repair outside of paint and body. Flat repair is $15!

Jeikun 2009-06-10 08:23 PM

Depending on how much M&B is at Lithia Subaru, I may take it to you guys. Wanna do my car, Cory?

cody 2009-06-10 09:01 PM

You couldn't pay me to take my car to Lithia.

Jeikun 2009-06-10 09:33 PM

Haha. It's just for the oil changes. I dont really have time to do them myself...

wrxkidid 2009-06-11 12:55 AM

why dont you bring your car to me Ill do it for 10 dollars or a twelve pack of pbr, plus parts and I wont screw it up and its a lot closer than lithia, a lot faster, and a lot cheaper...and your helping a poor college kid out.

I'm guessing he bought the Lithia lifetime oil change pyramid scheme. I mean, service.

I appreciate the offer, but if I ever decide to sell the car I want to have those receipts and records, ya know? Because I KNOW I'm not gonna be trading-in with the work I'm doing on my car...

cody 2009-06-12 09:19 AM

Just record the oil changes on mysubaru.com and keep the receipts for the oil itself. IMO, that would be better than having it done at the dealer, provided you're using good quaity synthetic oil.
