UFC 100 July 11th

I'm just wondering if anyone is as amped as I am for this fight coming up?? It's gonna be a great card. The fight is at 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 11th.

I was thinking of having people over to my place for the fight. I have no idea how many here would be interested in coming, but I was planning on making burgers, wings, and maybe a veggie tray of sorts. If the response is larger than I'm anticipating, then maybe we can change venues or something, but well cross that bridge when we come to it. I would like to know who plans on coming, and I would appreciate a small donation if you come to help cover cost of the fight, food, and beer (I was thinking around $5 a person, depending on how many people wanna come. Not mandatory, but appreciated :)). If anyone has any food/beer/other suggestions, lemme know.

I was also thinking of having a pool going on the fights, either $5 or $10 buy-in, again depending on what everyone thinks. I'll print out the fights on the card for everyone, and whoever gets the most right will win, with the possibility for 2nd and 3rd place prizes as well. Post up your opinions and if you would wanna come.

Wow, UFC has been around for 100 years already? Boy the time sure flies!

LOL I think it's only been around like 10 years or something, but theres a fight every other weekend it seems like.

I just lost interest when it stopped being actual mixed martial arts, and started being it's own style of brawling.

WRX06TR 2009-06-18 11:56 PM

I lost interest when I saw two guys punch each other twice standing up and then spend 8 minutes on the ground rolling around together...I get that submission techniques and fighting on the ground can be technical but its boring and super gay to watch

bigrobwoot 2009-06-19 05:51 AM

Sperry: I'm a lil confused on what you mean by that. Yeah, some fighters like to stand up, but there are those that like to take it to the ground. There are plenty of forms of martial arts that stay off the ground, like boxing, kick boxing, and muai thai come to mind right away, and I'm not even that into fighting and such. Maybe someone who has trained in mma could think of more. But there are also a bunch of fighters that are more into wrestling and bjj.

Nick: Brock Lesnar is fighting, so there will be at least one fight with a bunch of brawling, unless he let's Frank Mir take it to the ground. But Lesnar was a collegiate wrestler, and he's been training on the ground I would assume, so it could be a good fight on the ground as well. Also, Dan Henderson vs Michael Bisbing should be a stand up brawl, as well as Mark Coleman vs Stephen Bonnar.

I agree with Scott. It used to be "mixed martial arts" in which you'd have two fighters, generally of different disciplines, putting them against each other. It was interesting seeing how someone with a Muay Thai background would fair against a fighter with Tae Kwon Do experience. Now it's developed into a group of guys who all seem to have the same training, which is effectively a mash-up of a few different styles, (Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Roman Wrestling, etc.) and I've personally lost all interest in watching the same f*ing fight over and over... My $0.02

UFC is for pussies who like to roll on the ground and hug. And WTF is with the Hex/Octogon thing? That is like the metric system or something and has no place in this great country where all REAL sports are played on 4 sided "fields" and we measure things in multiples of 8, 12 and 16!

WWE is the real sport where people lie on the mat and wait for their opponents to scale corners, cages, etc to leap on them. They use any available office furniture that you always find near the ring to bludgeon each other, etc... Go watch WWE and buy their merchandise instead of that weak UFC stuff.

Can you guess which one I own stock in? ;)

I'm going to watch it this saturday at a friends house. I don't think I've seen a whole fight yet, hopefully it's a decent fight.

I used to like watching the classic boxing matches when I had cable.

I agree that is has evolved, but I see it as a good thing, not a bad thing. Although you're not gonna have Royce Gracie pwning everyone with a certain style, I think the fights and fighters are more complex now. And although they train in everything, they all still have their specialties. Brock Lesnar was a college wrestler, Chuck Liddell likes to stand and bang with people, Anderson Silva loves his muay thai clench, BJ Penn likes bjj, etc. But, if you don't like it then you don't like it.

Also, I think the new UFC is better, because you don't just have a bunch of drunken brawlers in the ring acting like it's a bar fight (besides Brock Lesnar in his first fight again Mir haha)

8 ounces in a cup, 12 inches in a foot, 16 ounces in a pound... It was related to my metric system comment...

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-19 07:37 AM

I just thought we were talking about sports.

Nick Koan 2009-06-19 08:32 AM

All I have to say is Lyoto Machida is my new hero after the last UFC (or, the last one I watched).

That guy finally does fight with a different style than most of the "I'm a boxer" and "I'm a grapler" types that usually define UFC fighting these days.

03wrxwagon 2009-06-20 08:29 AM

im down to come by and meet you guys and ill bring some food and beer and my bday is the 12 too!!!!

bigrobwoot 2009-06-20 03:55 PM

lol unfortunately no one seems to want to come, but you're more than welcome. Mines the 20th :)

What if I referred to it as a BBQ with UFC in the background? Now does anyone wanna come? Even if you don't wanna watch the fight you can come mingle. I was planning on cooking around 5:30 so we could eat, drink and mingle before the fight started. Anyone? Haha

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-20 05:37 PM

I think I would be down. What time? Do I need to wear shoes?

03wrxwagon 2009-06-20 06:03 PM

wear shoes and and no gloves when we fight after a few drinks in our system's haha

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-20 06:54 PM

We are not in the same class.

bigrobwoot 2009-06-21 09:55 AM

I'll take you Joel! Haha. Um, I guess you don't need to wear shoes, but I would suggest some at least up the driveway, because the street is pretty rugged on bare feet, and I get rocks on my driveway.

I was planning on having people start showing up around 5:30 for food and bullshitting

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-21 11:38 AM

When are you guys going to start churnin out some brew.

bigrobwoot 2009-06-21 01:53 PM

I'll have to ask will if he's gonna make any beer. He's in sac for fathers day right now but I'll ask when he gets back. I was just planning on getting coors light, maybe some blue moon, or anything anyone suggests I get :)

cody 2009-06-22 09:47 AM

We're going to be at my company BBQ until 4 (maybe) at Rock Park. Where abouts do you live?

bigrobwoot 2009-06-22 11:31 AM

I live off of Robb.

I'm probably going to my company picnic also that day. Samesies.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-22 01:36 PM

no you didn't.
