Gear question

I looked at the FAQ on NASIOC and it says that the gear ratios for 02-05 wrx 5mt and 06-07 wrx 5mt are the same. Does this mean that if I order gears from the factory that 02-07 gears are going to be the same? The reason I ask is because I guess that I need a new 3/4 gear and there is one for sale on nasioc from a guy who bought it for his 06 wrx. I would like to buy it but I want to make sure its the same gear first.

Thanks

I gotta think that by this point in your tranny rebuild, you're the resident gearbox expert on SECCS. If you don't know, or don't know how to find out, how are we gonna know!!?

My guess is that if the ratios are the same, since the gearboxes haven't been fundamentally changed over the years, it'll work. But I do know there have been revisions to things like synchros over the years, so I can't say that I know at all for sure.

Yeah I know a ton of things about the 5mt now. Like if this ever happens again I am just going to get rid of it. I will try nasioc even though there is so much false information floating around from people. When I say people I mean nasioc members, lithia subaru, and ds1 motorsports seem to all have different ideas and opinions on what is what.

Just keep calling Subaru parts places until eventually some place tells you the skinny.

This guy, John Gue, has the best customer service of any parts department I've ever delt with. He's usually happy to tell you what MYs are compatible with what parts. Give him a call or an email. Tell him Cody sent you. :)

I would think one of the on-line parts places would have them in their systems, and if they have the same part number, they are the same part, if not, they probably aren't.

I can't find a part number and I am kind of over dealing with Jamie from SGP.com

Yah, she fails at customer service.

I believe that the gear ratios are the same, but the final drive ratio is definitely different.

I don't know how big of a deal it is but maybe you can PM me your VIN so I can call subaru and ask for 3rd gear. They don't seem to be able to help me without a vin and you and gusgus are the only ones I know with an 06 wrx TR. If giving your vin to someone is a bad idea then forget I asked. I just need to tell this guy today if I am buying them or not and NOBODY seems to know the answer.

The guys at Santa Cruz Subaru recommended a guy in South Lake Tahoe to do my transmission work. Might be worth a phone call to them? Wow, that got convoluted.

Welcome. It's a little late because I already ordered the parts. From all the reading I did on NASIOC and talking to DS1 motorsports and Lithia, I figured it had to be the part that I needed and just bought it. Who did your transmission work?
