WRC Broadcasting in America
autosport.com - WRC News: WRC wins TV deal in the US
The World Rally Championship's promoters have struck a deal to screen the category in the United States. In what's been seen as a vital move to re-establish the sport in one of the world's key car markets, the WRC promoter International Sportsworld Communicators (ISC) has secured a deal with Discovery Communication channel HD Theater, which has a total audience of 633 million. ISC CEO said: "This is tremendous news for the championship and our fans in the United States. It's a ground-breaking deal which means the WRC has a high-profile broadcast presence in the US. We’re looking forward to taking the WRC to an ever-widening audience in the significant US market." Long has previously stated that it remains one of ISC's aims to return a World Rally Championship event to America. The series hasn't included a State-side round since Miki Biasion won the Olympus Rally in 1988. So the first broadcast is at 7pm on October 4th. |
This is good news. Anybody one of the 633,000,000?
And can get it into a portable format? Or are the rest of us stuck waiting for Torrents still? Not going to hold my breath for a U.S. Rally though. |
I have HD Theatre, I'm too lazy to sign in...are they airing races on a significant delay? Or same weekend?

I am watching channel 775 right now and just saw the commercial for WRC!! it is airing This Sunday at 8pm.. I am excited.
Actually I just checked it and it is actually going to be airing at 5pm (Pacific) and then again at 8pm... Too bad I dont have a DVR. I need to invest in something like this. |
This is good, I was also pleasantly surprised to find that charter added several new HD channels yesterday including speedhd and MLB HD.

Agreed, the basica Speed feed was horrible and the fit was way off...I'm not complaining.

Finally got around to wathcing Rally Ireland last night. In HD. Good Stuff. The broadcasts are exactly what speed used to have, only modernized. I forgot how much I enjoy watching rally, it just sucks that Subaru and Suzuki are gone. On a side note, Chris Atkinson is still good at wrapping cars around poles.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed it and look forward to watching this Sunday as well. It is a bummer that Subaru and Suzuki are no longer but I'd like to see Mikko take the Driver's Championship title.

Bump...wow! Cyprus is still as crazy as I recall from a few years back...this year it was a mixed tarmac/ gravel rally, so watching them push the cars on pavement with gravel tires, brakes and suspension was insane...
I love seeing Petter back in action, although it is weird to see him in a 3 year old hand-me-down Citroen. His own private team looks well prepared though...Loved seeing him grab a podium spot.... |
