For those of you who haven't heard, we recently lost one of out long-time members here. I don't really have any details outside of the obituary.

My condolences. Phil was always a good guy to me, even though I didn't really know him all that well.

He's one of the earliest members on this board, #28. He's been with the group for longer than most of us.

Phil was also the 1st guy around here to really mod his car. He had a giant turbo on his '02 WRX back in 2001 and used to go through a tranny every other month. Used to run a lot down at the Sac drag strip until they told him he needed a cage.

I'll certainly miss his "screw it, if it breaks, it breaks" attitude. It made it easier/cheaper for the rest of us to learn where the limits were.

Condolences

I have a very distinct memory of Phil and his Bugeye.

A friend of mine introduced Phil and I at a show, we got to talking about music, after the show we all went out and ate then he invited us to his house to hang out. I had no idea Phil was a car guy at the time and I remember for one reason or another we went out to his garage and that's where I saw his WRX. We must have stood around it for an hour talking about it, Subarus, and cars in general. I too remember his attitude of "If it breaks, it breaks" because I was so concerned with the general rules of thumb of "tuning" at the time being a DSM owner. He just laughed at how cautious I was and that helped me realize that internet babel isn't gospel.

Phil seemed like a great guy from my little experience with him.

Omg...my condolences to the family. I can't believe that, Phil was a good guy, I only met him a few times but he was always cool to talk to...very sad to hear.

RIP Phil

Oh no. Gone too early. RIP, Phil.
(Thanks for letting us know, Scott.)

Holy Crap. He just survived that crazy accident where a drunk driver creamed his STi too. I had no idea he was ill. RIP.

Wow, that sucks. He was a cool guy, from the brief amount of time I knew him. RIP Phil.

RIP Phil...I feel like I got a chance to know Phil well, as he lived around the corner from me for several years, I'll never forget...my neighbors were not real fond of all the loud subarus at my house all the time, and one day yelled across the street at us, so Phil redlined his Yamaha R1 with race exhaust and deafened all of us...hahaha. Good times.

RIP Phil. That is such sad news. I don't know what to say. Phil was always willing to help me out back in the day when he was working at Good Guys. He posted here so recently also. I had no idea what he was going through.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. Death is always a difficult thing to comprehend.

Love what you do and who you are with.....always.

Oh My God, Rest in Peace Phil. He was a great friend/character.I remember going over to his house a few times and checking out that Garage that sometimes wouldn't close due to the amount of Subaru aftermarket stuff he always had. You will be missed and remembered. :(

k-dogg39 2009-10-30 07:36 PM

RIP Phil. I picked up a few parts after his Sti was wrecked. Really cool guy. :(

I'm stunned. I knew he was very ill that one time a few years back and recovered, then had his accident and got better and showed up in a rental and I think the group spent 30 minutes at least discussing his next project. It can't be more than a few months ago he showed up in the solution, a hot new BMW and looked great.

I didn't really know him outside his love for cars and going over the top with them. We all scoffed when he decided to go meth injection, but the car was amazing with all the aero and such. I remember fondly BSing about all his plans and giving him crap about his "Blue Light Special" grounding kit. (That I think Kevin now has.)

He will be missed.

Damn, I was over at his house just a few months ago buying some parts and checking out his new BMW. I always liked talking cars with him. Didn't know him that well, but still... He survived that coma and then that bad accident that totaled his bad-ass STI, and now this. I feel for his family and closer friends. Dietra knew him from McQueen - awesome drummer. This is sad indeed. RIP, Phil.

I knew Phil in high school. I remember seeing him and his band play at some gathering or another in the auditorium, and he was damn good even that far back. His mother was one of my favorite teachers ever. Great lady. Sucks...

ScottyS 2009-11-02 03:23 PM

That's a shame, seemed like he'd been through a lot.
