HF Aluminum racing jack <$60
Do anybody know? Is that a low profile? full size? or the mid size? Dual action pump?
I might have to go check it out tomorrow. |
I think that's the same one I bought to replace the Summit Racing one that was stolen from my garage. It's almost identicle to the SR jack except for the brand, color, and it only has a side handle thingy on one side instead of both. Nothing wrong with it though. Great buy.
Nat, it's a fairly low profile "racing" jack. It's plenty low for any non-slammed car. |
Single action.
Remember, these are lightweight jacks. You are lifting up to 3000 lbs with a cheap 24lb jack and they will wear and fail at some point. If you just want something for the garage, get a serious heavy steel floor jack for more or an ultra cheapo for <$30. If you want to change 4 wheels in 12 seconds, this ain't it. If you want a 1/2 decent jack you can throw in the car, take to the track and not care if someone steals it or it dies, then it is a good choice. My older slightly larger slightly different HF 3000lb jack has lasted 10 years and hundreds of lifts with only a little seal weep and 1 oil refill. I think DK has gone through 2 in less time, so YMMV... Pep Boys also has a $70 24v impact wrench after rebate. Know nothing about it though. |
I have had that jack for 5 years with no complaints at all. I might pick up another one.
I found the same page in my AAA book today.
If it's like mine, I can just barely fit it and one 2x4 under the front jack point with the Prodrive springs on the car. I like the jack, it's very convenient. I also have a much larger lo-pro steel jack if I need powaaaaa.
Dean, I'm stuck in CO. Can I talk you into grabbing on of these for me?
Well, I was using mine for the 2nd time yesterday and it started leaking and slowly lowering halfway through rotating my tires. :unamused:
I'm within the 90 day warranty but I have to pay for shipping to get it to warranty repair. Wish I'd saved the foam inserts for the box. I'm pretty sure that it's the main seal leaking since it's not coming from the top, and the only drain plug/breather is on top, fully visible. |
It could just be air in the cylinder. Do you have a breather valve installed, or just the regular plug? I remember having to bleed my jack when it was new or it would droop with load on it, then install the auto-breather plug to keep it firm.
There is a breather and a drain on the top. There's also a big screw that has a warning not to adjust it since it's set at the factory. It dumped about a quarter cup both times I tried to use it (not from any of the ports on top).
I can get you a sheet of foam how thick do you want?
Thanks, but that's okay Nat. I have packing material at work.
Can't you just take it back to HF and get a new one? They have taken care of warranties for me at the store before.
Hey, you're right. Just called them and they said that as long as it's been less than 3 months, they'll "take care of me."
Ended up paying an extra $1.xx for an extra 2 year warranty on the replacement jack since they applied some coupon. They will retroactively give you discounts on previous purchases if you bring in the coupon within 30 days, FYI.
