WTB: '04 STi driver side front strut

My left front strut is stripping out where it bolts to the top mount, so I need another. If anybody has one or knows of one I can get quickly that would be excellent. Needs to be '04 STi for 5x100 hubs.

I was thinking about that. You could just rethread it one metric or SAE size smaller! the taper/shaft centers and takes the load, not the nut. It just keeps it from falling out of the mount.

The die for that will probably cost more than a strut!

Not really, since I'm pretty sure Cory has one. I'm just not sure I want to do shortcut fixes on a car I plan to keep for a very long time.

Dean 2010-08-16 04:33 PM

It is not a shortcut IMHO. You could do both fronts if you want symmetry.

It's quite literally a "short cut".

But really, it would be a crap ton easier to just cut new threads if the strut is in otherwise good shape.

Dean 2010-08-16 05:00 PM

True enough. I really don't think it compromises anything though was my point or I would not have suggested it.

It should easily outlast the life of the strut if not mangled again. And if Cory doesn't have the die, a machine shop that does can't charge more than 15 minutes labor to do it.

You're off by just 365 days. :P

('04 and '05 front struts are different)

Lol learn something new everyday. thanks

Strut lowers are different, but the inserts should be the same (or work as a matched set side to side, anyways). Hell, I had '05 STi inserts in V5 housings on the wagon many moons ago.
