Caughlin Ranch Fire

I hope everyone is okay. 20 homes already burnt and the wind is not helping right now.

I know Dean is in that area. Anyone else?

Dean 2011-11-18 08:36 AM

Evanses have relocated.

Don't know about the Perrys

Uphill and South/East of me.

Nick Koan 2011-11-18 08:59 AM

Driving to work I could see it on the hill just north of Huffaker. That's more south than the articles led me to believe.

Scott, Nick, Mike, and anybody else south of McCarren, it is headed your way.

I'd pack if I were you! Reports of embers flying over 1/2 mile and sustained winds over 50MPH and gust near 80 in the valley!

If it jumps 395, we could lose much of the south valley.

Nick Koan 2011-11-18 11:08 AM

Yeah, the evacuation zone just moved to Zolezzi lane. Now I'm started to get a little worried.

Nick Koan 2011-11-18 12:23 PM

The wind has wreaked havoc on my fence.

sperry 2011-11-18 01:52 PM

It's not coming that far, damonte ranch looks pretty safe, especially since they're reporting the fires progress has been halted.

Pretty amazing how far the fire did progress in only 12 hours though. This wind is the worst I can remember in the 10 years I've been in Reno.

Dean 2011-11-18 02:14 PM

updated fire perimeter from 1PM briefing. Better detail.

Windy Hill is just northwest of my place, we could see the flames from the house. We had valuables and some supplies packed in our cars in case we got evacuated, but luckily the fire didn't get much closer than that.

Dean 2011-11-18 07:57 PM

Any visible fire tonight down that way?

khail19 2011-11-18 10:09 PM

I left work at 7pm and couldn't see anything on the way home. I did see some emergency vehicles (flashing lights) up in the area, but no flames were visible.

Great. Another one.

This is a little closer to me, but they are talking about evacuating to Damonte Ranch HS and having a press conference at Galena HS, so that must mean they are confident it won't make it this far.

Are you close to Scott and Mike K?

Nick Koan 2012-01-19 06:41 PM

Mike K is my next door neighbor. Well, backyard neighbor technically, but that sounds weird.

In-laws live in pleasant valley right where most of the footage was shot. Had to evacuate them and all of the animals today. It's pretty cool how the local casinos are helping the people effected by the fire by giving them discounted or free rooms. Tomorrow we will see if the house is gone.

Nick Koan 2012-01-19 10:18 PM

Glad your family were able to make it out of there. Sounds like the fire is finally getting under control (if not officially under control). Good luck on checking out the house tomorrow.

MikeK, you in touch with Dave Meyers at all? I'm sure he had to evacuate.

He did, but he was allowed back the next day.
