Anyone feel like making a Sacramento meet this weekend?

Do we have anything going on this weekend? Should we make a Sac run?

There's a Friday meet in Davis: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...threadid=44680 Might be a little hard to get to, plus it's even further than Sac.

And there's the standard Saturday Sac Meet... http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...654#post390654

Anyone interested?

MattR 2004-01-15 11:23 AM

I'm interested, ish.

Nick Koan 2004-01-15 11:26 AM

And if you guys are interested, there is some sort of Thunderhill thing going on all day on Saturday. S-Squared is going, and dragging along some cronies (and anyone else is of course free to show up).

You know, I really don't know where T-Hill is! I've never been, how long's the drive from Reno?

MattR 2004-01-15 11:48 AM

Its like 30-45 min north of Sac if I'm not mistaken.

sperry 2004-01-15 11:50 AM

I just map-quested it... looks like Drive to Sac (2hrs) then go N on I-5 for another hour, then 162 West.... like 3.5 hours! :x

If I go, someone better give me a ride on course!

Nick Koan 2004-01-15 11:51 AM

Yup, halfway between Sac and Red Bluff/Redding.

EDIT: Woah, woah woah. Its only about 7 miles on hwy 162 if memory serves me.

From http://www.thunderhill.com

Interstate 5 North 1 hour from Sacramento, West on Highway 162 7 miles west to the track entrance

 I didn't mean my post to look like it was a 3.5hr drive on 162!! That's 3.5 hours *total* from Reno to T-Hill. About an hour and change more than just going to Sac.

I'm thinking there's gotta be a more "direct" route... like HWY 20 or something that cuts across east to west w/o dipping as far south as Sacramento... 'course it would probably take 4 or 5 hours to get there, but at least it would be a kick ass fun drive!

Nick Koan 2004-01-15 12:04 PM

Hahahaha, a 3.5 hour drive on 162 would probably put you in the Pacific

I get it, 3.5 hours total. Yeah, thats about what mapquest said it would take me from South Lake too. I think I'm going. I still haven't decided yet.

ArthurS 2004-01-15 12:22 PM

I am down for whatever this weekend. Friday night is a no-go for me but doing something saturday would be fun.

sperry 2004-01-15 01:17 PM

Well, let's talk tonight about putting together a caravan for Thunderhill? nKoan, you gonna make it to the meet tonight?

sybir 2004-01-15 05:29 PM

You guys should totally roll out to Thunderhill.....
I'm sure if you ask Nate or Kevin, they'll take you out, just bring your helmets.

The hoopty wagon, in all it's sliggidy-slammed glory, is playing the support role, Nick's heading out early with me, so he wouldn't be caravanning.........

Scott, if you come, wouldja mind bringing my jacket? ;)

Hope to see you guys there, it's been a while, and I'm not gonna make it to a Thursday meet anytime soon, what with working at 6 am, lol.....

I don't think I'll be able to make it tonight. Have fun though guys.

I'm still working on a plan to get out there, but since my camber bolts didn't come in today, I may not have a car that I'll trust on a drive that long... if thet come in tomorrow, I can try to install 'em and align the car Friday to head out early Saturday, but it's all way up in the air for now.

If I do go, I'll bring your jacket sybir, and the XXL sweaters you guys ordered since we got them today! If I don't make it, we'll ship everything out to ya'll Monday.

ArthurS 2004-01-16 12:16 AM

If people head out on Saturday...I am down to go. Just let me know. :D

sybir 2004-01-16 08:04 AM

sweet!
Thanks, Scott :)

Hope to see you guys there.
Just bring your camber bolts, my car will be full of tools.......

What are the camber bolts for? I thought the top plates on your struts were already camber adjustable?

Yeah, 'cept when you don't have the stock camber bolts in the front, the tires tend to wobble between 0 and -1.5 deg of camber. The last place that did my alignment stripped out a camber bolt and just left it in there, now that I took it out during the installation of my coilovers, I was forced to put some spare non-camber bolts in the front, and the camber is now dynamic in a *real* bad way. Basically I keep off the freeway and try not to drive far, so a trip to Willows is not happening unless I get some bolts installed tonight.

Which reminds me, time to call the place I ordered 'em from and find out where the hell they are! Otherwise I may be begging for a ride to Carson City to pick some up from the dealer down there.

Are they the lower strut mounting bolts to the spindle? I don't have a mental image of what you're talking about...

Bingo.

PN: 20578F

It's an oval shaped bolt, turn it and the spindle tips in and out.

The two holes right by M13001 fit in the slot in the strut, and are where the strut is connected to the hub assembly.

Huh, crazy. The spindle/strut assembly on the Mustang is pretty much identical, except it uses normal round bolts. The lower mounting hole fits the lower bolt snug, but the upper mount hole is larger diameter than the upper bolt by maybe a couple of millimeters, so there's some slop when the bolts are loose. This lets you adjust the spindle angle relative to the strut when it's loose. There's no problem with the slop though, you just get the spindle at the angle you want and then torque down the bolts - it's a ridiculously high torque, like 150ft*lbs or something like that IIRC, so the clamping load between the strut tabs & the spindle keeps it from moving.

Same deal as mine, 'cept the bolts are camber bolts... and even w/ the required 162ftlbs it still moves. Go figure.

I saw sperry driving home after the sac meet on 50. Why did you drive on 50? Isn't 80 quicker?

sybir 2004-01-18 11:15 AM

????

And I somehow missed both of you.....

Scott, you have pics?
