+1 for silencer delete. Leave the stock intake. I always suggest first power mods on a pre-06WRX as UP, DP, CBE (stock 3rd cat is fine if you get a shorty DP), boost/EGT gauges and a custom tune, preferably at the elevation you drive hard in. Heat wrap the UP and DP if they aren't thermal coated. Trim and re-use the stock turbo heat shield.
And definitely don't get the SPT intake. I've heard from multiple people that they fall off, which can (and has) blown motors.
