Without getting into an argument on the subject, I assume it's because supporting gay rights is political suicide. Which to me is a pretty sad state of affairs... that supporting equality between citizens is somehow a bad thing. I guess it's because most of America is straight and doesn't really care one way or the other since it doesn't effect them much, but the really vocal people are either gay or rabid homophobes (who are also probably gay and in denial <snicker>) and it seems the homophobes outnumber the gays.
Am I the only one that sees the gay rights movement to be the same thing as women's rights, or racial equality, etc? Don't people realize that in the future this sort of discrimination will seem as silly as segregation? |
