An "Album" and an "EP" are exactly the same thing as a "CD"...
EP stands for "Extended Play", which is a specific format of vinyl record with a shorter play time than an LP (Long Play). It's just as much a material object as a CD is.
And if you really want to get crazy about it, an "album" is literally a collection of records that come together in a folder, at least that's what the term started as in the early 1900's. Though it's come to be a way to reference a collection of songs without regards to the specific recording technology, it does in fact refer to the songs in terms of a recording for public distribution, and is not actually a generic term for "a group of songs that are together a performance of art". i.e. "album" means "songs on a cd, or cassette, or vinyl record, or 8-track, or mp3, etc". An album does not exist without a recording medium, and therefor Pete's statement of "They never even made a CD" is equivalent to "Then never even made an album" with the exception that Pete was being specific about the target medium of the album.
