I don't think anyone would come if I had an event on Memorial Day. Most of us bribe the signifigant other into going to the weekend event in return for doing chores on the holiday.
That's kinda why I picked that particular weekend. It also means less money lost for missing work, as Memorial Day for many of us is a paid holiday.
