Default Heel pads for carpet repair?

A while back I wore a hole through the carpet in front of the gas pedal on the WRX. I though some really heavy-duty tape would be enough to cover it up, but alas, now that I'm driving the car again with regular shoes (as opposed to race boots), the tape is peeling up, and now I've got a sticky mess to deal with.

Anyone know of a solution?

This is the best I've been able to find online: http://www.apadco.com/auto/heelpads.html

I'm not so sure though, as they talk about using some spray adhesive to glue it down. I figured a proper solution would have some sort of epoxy or be like a dynamat type substance. I've had bad luck with spray-on fabric adhesive in the past.

Cory, you've got a small diamond plate deal in your car don't you? Where'd you get that, and how is it stuck down?

I'm wondering if the easy solution would be just to bolt a cut and formed piece of aluminum sheet to the floor.
