I certainly hope that this model (08-09) isn't the one they decide they'll keep around for a while. We can see just how much the public likes this car by how "rare" it is. The Evo X has a bigger price tag than it's previous itineration, and I see almost one a day. You can call the STI rare all day, but the truth is most people don't like it. Perhaps this small redesign on the 09 Rex comes from the unpopularity of the 08 STI.

The Impreza has only been "completely redesigned" twice... in '02 and in '08. All the other updates every two years were minor face lifts... basically just a changing of the headlights/grill.

I would expect a similar minor update to the Impreza in 2010. There were rumors that in 2010 the Impreza will be larger and a new smaller car will turn up... and that line would be the platform for the STi and the rally car... but with the hatchback Impreza redesign, I bet it sticks around with only minor updates until 2014 or so.

The WRX engine update for '09 is directly due to the power of the new Ralliart Lancer and the Masdaspeed3. The STi sales are down because the car costs $40k, which isn't an issue as long as the new WRX sells well enough to make up for the lower STi sales.
